This is one of my favorite North American butterflies: the buckeye. They are local, but uncommon. Occasionally, we will have an irruptive year and they will be abundant. But then they're generally rare in the following years. This morning I found two nectaring in the raised bed where I grow spearmint. I hope to get some good pics of them with my DSLR (these are just cell phone pics).
