My girl Selkie has a mysterious wound. She has been given antibiotics. The vet said no stitches, no bandage. I put her “cone of shame” on backwards to see if that would work, and it did. Then it didn’t! I caught her contorting her body to lick the wound. So now she looks like a lamp head. Poor girl.
Awe, poor kitty. I hope she gets better soon.
thank you, the wound appears to be healing well. She's going for a check up tomorrow.
@DeeWoman That's great. Hopefully everything is going well healing wise.
Selkie as in the Scottish mythical half seal half human also called silkie?
Yes indeed. ? She is all black and very shiney and smooth like a seal. And I am obsessed with all things Scottish! ?
@DeeWoman here is courtesy of "Traditional and Folkmusic" the amazing June Tabor with a fabulous rendition of the song "The Great Selkie of Sule Skerrie":
Or if you prefer more traditional, the equally great Corries from about fifty years ago:
@FrayedBear both hauntingly lovely! Thank You! ?✌??
The only time I wear a lamp shade is when I drink, not when I get wounded.
Put the cone on the other way.
They heal pretty fast. Does she get to go outside?
No , I am keeping her inside for now. She’s very young and healthy, just over a year old. The wound is looking better. ?
It's possible to use a toddler sized onesie to keep a cat from wound licking - let me see if I can find the information:
Thank you! I will try this!
Judging from my toddler granddaughter, I think infant sizes would be better. SamSam is 25 pounds, my cats are right at 10.
@HippieChick58 Yup I'd bring a tape measure (after measuring kitty).
@HippieChick58 I bought an infant size 6-9 months (only cost $1 !) , because Selkie is smallish, but it was too small for her. It was almost funny as she waddled away from me and couldn’t walk right in it. Wanting to laugh but feeling for the sweet kitty. It looks like it will work well in a larger size. ?

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
