This morning, I am writing for emotional support. You see, Bug is happily asleep in my lap, but I REALLY want a second cup of coffee! Doh! I love this little bastard, but I REALLY want that second cup!

That is a really hard choice. I would set kitty down someplace good for him, get te coffee, return to Bug, place him back on your lap after returning to your seat. Sit closer to the coffee.

This is an excellent plan; however, Bug does not let one pick him up or place him in one's lap. His claws are sharp and he uses them. LOL

@orange_girl When I get a cat that does this I pet them and never do anything to harm them, I talk sweetly to them and tell them I love them. They have all eventually gotten over the claw thing. I even have them now climb all over me and they never use their claws, of course you have to hold still so they are sure footed.

@dalefvictor Bug does a great job of not clawing me when he climbs over me (thankfully). The other day, though, in the kitchen, one of us scared him (I still don't know what set him off...he's your quintessential scaredy cat) and he accidentally scratched me. He won't tolerate being picked up, so I don't do it unless absolutely necessary. I do try to respect his limits, although sometimes his degree of scary-cat-ness is ridiculous. He scares himself at least once a day. LOL

@orange_girl We had Chutney, a feral cat that came to us pregnant, she was beautiful, but she did have claws and put us in the emergency room at least once. Over time she got to the point where we could pick her up, move her, and do whatever we needed to do. She got to the point where she would sleep with Kate. She gave us three Maine Coon kittens which we kept until they passed.

Set the coffeemaker by your chair.

I'd offer to get it for you, but it would be cold by the time I got it to you.

glennlab Level 9 Feb 10, 2019

I certainly appreciate the offer!

My old girl (21) wants to sleep on me which I think is sweet....except the scootches up so close to my face so she can lick my nose and then her whiskers tickle and itch and drive me crazy. hahahahahah

I swear that mine find pleasure in playing patty cake (kneading lol) on my full bladder as soon as I wake up. At least Bug isn't doing that. ?

Kynlei Level 8 Feb 10, 2019

The struggle is real.

Get a small whistle like used at sporting events. Keep it on you or within reach. I guarantee when you blow on that they will get off. I don't consider it mean, I doubt if they understand where it came from anyway (especially if you act scared too smile009.gif) And don't worry, he'll be back.

Ray13 Level 8 Feb 10, 2019

Actually, all I have to do is get out his nail trimmers and he takes off. Works like a charm. Sometimes, I can even clip a back nail or two before he takes off. Earlier, I got two! LOL

@orange_girl , yup, whatever it takes. Sometimes I'll say "are you hungry?" & they'll jump off and run to the kitchen. Of coarse then I have to get them some goodies..smile009.gif

@Ray13 this one always works! Bug knows the words “dinner” and “snack” well.

@Ray13 Perhaps treats?

Ha! I have my coffee and Bug is back. His tail is twitchy, but hopefully, he'll just go back to sleep. You all rock!

orange_girl Level 8 Feb 10, 2019

Cats always sleep... Wake up his tiny kitty butt and get your coffee lol

Cutiebeauty Level 9 Feb 10, 2019

OK, the Yays have it! (THANK YOU) . . . so an aside . . . yesterday I had to go in my office (I no longer let him in there) and when I came out, Bug jumped up and bit me in the ass! Moments later, he lunged at me from afar and tried to attack. This is my cat.

orange_girl Level 8 Feb 10, 2019

Do you also get the ankle ambush?

@Byrdsfan Nope, Bug is strictly an ass man! LOL

@orange_girl He's a smart cat! smile001.gif

@AmiSue . . . but why, oh, why does it have to be the ass???

Gotta have it...Later bug!!!!

RobertNappi2 Level 8 Feb 10, 2019

Coffee! (Sorry, Bug)

Byrdsfan Level 8 Feb 10, 2019

I am sure if you carefully shift him and get your coffee he will forgive you, and eventually he will sleep in your lap again. In the future be better prepared. Take a thermos of coffee with you so as not to disturb his beauty sleep.

HippieChick58 Level 9 Feb 10, 2019

Oh, for pity’s sake. Dump Bug and get your coffee...Bug will be back in your lap in no time.
