This morning, I am writing for emotional support. You see, Bug is happily asleep in my lap, but I REALLY want a second cup of coffee! Doh! I love this little bastard, but I REALLY want that second cup!

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.That is a really hard choice. I would set kitty down someplace good for him, get te coffee, return to Bug, place him back on your lap after returning to your seat. Sit closer to the coffee.

@orange_girl When I get a cat that does this I pet them and never do anything to harm them, I talk sweetly to them and tell them I love them. They have all eventually gotten over the claw thing. I even have them now climb all over me and they never use their claws, of course you have to hold still so they are sure footed.
@orange_girl We had Chutney, a feral cat that came to us pregnant, she was beautiful, but she did have claws and put us in the emergency room at least once. Over time she got to the point where we could pick her up, move her, and do whatever we needed to do. She got to the point where she would sleep with Kate. She gave us three Maine Coon kittens which we kept until they passed.
Get a small whistle like used at sporting events. Keep it on you or within reach. I guarantee when you blow on that they will get off. I don't consider it mean, I doubt if they understand where it came from anyway (especially if you act scared too 
) And don't worry, he'll be back.

@orange_girl , yup, whatever it takes. Sometimes I'll say "are you hungry?" & they'll jump off and run to the kitchen. Of coarse then I have to get them some goodies..

I am sure if you carefully shift him and get your coffee he will forgive you, and eventually he will sleep in your lap again. In the future be better prepared. Take a thermos of coffee with you so as not to disturb his beauty sleep.
