A year or so back I switched from the heavier cat litter to the lighter one. I live in a two-story duplex upstairs and I was tired of lugging that 35-40 lb container upstairs.
Because the granules are so much lighter, my cats track them all over the house.
I've finally gotten tired of the cleanup. I switched back to the heavier cat litter, and saw a huge difference immediately.
Do any of you have any experience either way?

I have used Special Kitty litter for over 20 years now, never a problem and it's not expensive at all....Don't forget to put baking soda in the box first...Absorbs the oder!!!

Tried the lightweight but didn't like it somehow. Since I have 15 indoor cats plus sometimes I also have a cat or two or three at my boarding facility, I lug around A LOT of cat litter. When I go pick up cat litter, I often buy 4-10 boxes/bags/containers (40 lbs each). Some of my cats have allergies and asthma so litter dust is a big issue. That and cost. There are many options that are not clumping clay/granule type litter (paper pellets, corn granules, wood pellets). They are expensive, and I've hated the ones I've tried. It's also a hit and miss with the cats. Some won't use them. Most of those aren't as heavy as the regular litter even for a larger bag. You can probably try some. It's not cost effective for me. I've been using Dr. Elsey's unscented dust free litter, which I can get as low as $14.99 Cdn for the 40 lbs bag if on sale. It doesn't clump so well but is pretty much dustless. I mix it with Petsmart's house brand litter which is almost dust free (Great Choice Long Lasting) to help with the clumping. The tracking is not too bad but really depends on the cats. Some are just messy!!! But yeah, I still do lug 40 lbs bag/containers of cat litter up and down stairs and between my house and my boarding facility (usually I carry 2 at a time). One thing you can do is if there is a shed or garage on property where you can store items, you can put the litter bags/containers there and transfer some amounts into a smaller container to take up to your place as needed.

My young cat, Zippy, has no preference to which litter he sprays around on the floor. His goal, it seems, is to cover the floor with a layer of litter only one granule deep.

Never tried the lighter type, too expensive.

I am never home during normal hours so delivery is actually less convenient than buying in the store for me but have been wanting to try this

Apparently it’s lighter

I live in a single story with a basement and also got tired of hauling the litter around. Most of the litter boxes are in the basement, with one on the main floor. I use both the lightweight clumping and pine in the basement and pine in the upper. They prefer the clumping but will use the pine as well. Fortunately most of the tracking takes place in the basement.

Oh, and on occasion someone will pee in the bathtub, which I really don't mind. Easiest cleanup ever.

I had that problem with the heavy litter. It was everywhere! We got this World's Best Cat Litter back in March just to try it out. I LOVE it. It's lighter weight, it clumps better, it smells better, and best of all, they don't track it. There is a little bit of fallout around the box where they kick it as they exit, but it doesn't stick to their feet. It's made from corn so you can flush it if you want to. It's 99% dust free and doesn't aggravate my allergies. It is a little bit pricier than regular litter. We were paying around $8 for regular and this stuff is $15-$16. However, one bag lasts around 3 months and we have 3 cats. I think we were buying regular litter once every month or month and a half, so the extra cost really evens out. The only problem I have with it is that my one cat refuses to bury her mess now. The oldest cat has never buried hers, though, so it's really not that big of a deal. I do it for them. 🙄

Might be worth a try, at least. You can always switch back.

I use the Arm and Hammer multi cat clumping kind. I get a 20 pound box when Von's have it on sale for $5. It's heavy for me. I don't see how you can carry a 40# upstairs. I haven't tried the light weight. At Kittyland we use the non clumping kind as the kittens get it on their paws, then lick their paws and it goes in their little stomachs

Another reason I like World's Best, it's quite edible being made of corn. It's unscented so no chemicals, although there is a lavender scented one. I don't think the cats care, lol. I find the smell of the fresh litter very pleasing. It clumps really firmly and is not particularly dusty. I don't notice a smell unless somebody doesn't cover their business.
