This is Jazzee. When she was 13, her previous owners wanted to have her euthanized. They had moved from an acreage to the city, and adopted a puppy and two kittens. Jazzee wasn’t adjusting well and started to use inappropriate places for defecating. They said they tried everything but nothing worked. They had her checked for health issues and she was fine. No rescue was able to take her. They were going to bring her to the vet to be put down but the clinic called me to help find her a home. I was given 2 days to find a country home for an old cat with behavioural issues. I really had no choice but to take her at least temporarily because I didn’t want her dead for no good reason. I talked to the owners directly. They actually said they hated her.
I took her home the day she was supposed to be euthanized. She was crying all the way home. I thought I was going to have a lot of work ahead of me. But once home, she was very lovey right away. Never once has she behaved inappropriately. She’s a loving, active, sprightly senior cat. She loves cuddles and having her fur brushed. Needless to say, she stays with us. She is now 17 and going strong. Every time I look at her I think she could have been dead years ago. This beautiful loving cat would have been killed for being stressed and unhappy. I’m happy she’s alive and enjoying her golden years.
Oh I love Jazzee and thank you for allowing her to grace you with her presence! You're both beautiful!
Meet my 14 year old Seal Point Himalayan (I adopted her on my birthday in January) and changed her name from Kittery Kat to MAKANA, which means gift in Hawaiian. I had seen her picture posted on a bulletin board for over a year, stating that she needed a home. Apparently, her human had to go into a rest home and the family didn't want her. When I picked her up, she was a filthy, emaciated mess. Now she is thriving! We send you both greeting and hugs!
She’s gorgeous. Our house is a mishmash of unwanted cats and dogs. We rescue cats. We adopted out the more adoptable cats and kittens, and kept the ones that have issues whether behavioural or health related. I adopted a 12.5 year old German shepherd mix that was left at my work. He lived a happy life with us until he passed away at 16.5.
@graceylou - My house is also a 'mishmash' of unwanted cats and dogs. A friend made me a sign that hangs on the back door. Thank you for all you do. You're the kind of person I'd be proud to friend.
She has a beautiful "what do you expect if you are silly 'pursed lips' look on her face".
She gives you that face when she follows you wherever you go and you're too busy to pet her and give her 100% attention (and playfight her, she loves to playfight).
YOU....... are a good human. Thank you for doing this.
Ssshhhhh. Don't let the word get out that I might possibly may be good sometimes.
@gracelou what a saint you are (and I mean that in a totally non religious way) What a lucky girl she was to have found you. It makes me so angry that people dispose of inconvenient pets so quickly. It sounds like they did not take her needs into account when they made changes. It is sad for the animals. Thank you for sharing her story.
It was just the right thing to do. I rescue cats and place them in homes (at my own expense) and that was why the vet clinic called me. A lot of people sacrifice their pets for their own happiness. I make sacrifices for animals and feel that is just the right thing to do. Jazzee isn’t going anywhere. We love her too much.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
