We need to create an economy that does not need growth ti sustain its self and can maintain a constant in pricing so there is no need for wage or commody prices to increase

Humanity has been evolving on the premise that more is better for eons. It is the motivation for trade, invention, and art...and imperialism, colonial conquest, and slavery. Even your food is the product of expanding innovation. Being a mindful consumer is the key, and holding our governments and policy makers accountable as well. There are enough resources on the planet for everyone to live well and environmentally sustainably if we got our act together.

Absolutely, totally, for certain and undoubtedly agree. Consumerism is the fire behind Climate Change and many other ills that plague this planet. Unfortunately, too many people would not know what to do without 'stuff' and for some hoarding has become a mental illness.

As a professional musician it naturally comes with the territory.

Except for buying guitars...

@Krish55 or pedals and ampsπŸ™ƒ

Sustainable equals not buying more than your income can support.

Alienbeing Level 8 Dec 28, 2020

I think it goes well beyond that. It is buying what you need after you've really thought hard if you need it at all. In other words, if you earn more or come into a windfall, that doesn't mean you should buy more.

Maybe, but then you have to consider the years that you won’t be working.
I think this is more, β€˜sustainable’ as in for the 🌎 which has already been far too depleted for many’s liking.
If you have kids/ grandkids it would consider what their needs are likely to be too. Being able to breathe and not have to swim everywhere might be on the agenda for the future πŸ˜‰

@Mitch07102 I never inferred it did.

The best way is to replace capitalism. The corporate media promotes consumerism. It is inevitable that most will fall for this. The solution is not only a religious-type ascetic abstention which makes us enlightened ones feel morally superior but the socializing of both the production of goods and ideas.

Krish55 Level 8 Dec 28, 2020

Whoa. While I agree we need to replace capitalism, in the meanwhile we can be mindful, enlightened consumers and not fall for capitalistic buy-me bait. This includes appreciating nature, experiences, communityβ€” free stuff. I don’t need to feel morally superior to do this.

@NJSnarky I agree wholeheartedly! My comment doesn't actually contradict that.

Mmm, after dying, yes πŸ˜‚

You really evaluate what you absolutely have to have when you have to go out in a pandemic to get it!😱
