We've been very slow to determine the difference between free speech and inciting harm, and we still have a long way to go. Perhaps we can work on that after we stop granting the unrestricted freedom for people to gun down innocents.

@SeaGreenEyez I fear the same, and I hate that it's escalating. I hate even more that clearly the filibuster and expanded SC won't be happening during this presidency, so basically nothing lasting.
My daughter went to an anime convention without me recently. Tens of thousands of people packed into a few city blocks. It's the first time in 15 years that I was fearful all weekend about an opportunistic shooter or driver, and I hate having that fear. What a way to live.
@SeaGreenEyez Please give yourself a break from all the horror. It’s too hard on one’s mind to keep reading about it and seeing it on the internet.

It is very easy to defend speech that is polite, agreeable and friendly. Anybody can do that. The real test is when the speech is controversial and intolerant. That’s when you find out who really does believe in free speech and who is just pretending.

@SeaGreenEyez “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all” as per Noam Chomsky. And don’t kid yourself. “Losing free speech” would not curb the hate. It would drive it into the shadows where, if anything, it would only grow stronger.
