@Santanaman9 The problem is that there will be people who will think that, whatever the case may be. How it is awarded is quite subjective, so it would be easy to say that the award had been 'fixed'. It would have been far better if they demonstrated that candidates were examined anonymously, and that the assessors had no way of knowing the candidates' age, race, creed, colour, religion, gender or sexuality.
First "Black" (African-heritage) Princeton valedictorian in the history of the school. At the end of my teaching career - it was clear who the serious students were...almost entirely my African-American students were consistently at the top of the class. This is very notable, indeed.
