Being a free thinker helped me as I could think outside the box. I discovered an old chess opening which was disfavored and discarded and not played. But I analyzed new idea in that opening and wrote a book. After that several books came out with analysis on the opening. Now it is a mainstream opening.
I also analyzed another discarded opening and showed it was a viable opening and I wrote a book on that opening. But it did not turn out to be as popular as I hoped.

It is Black after 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5. I played this opening in the 7th United States Correspondence Chess Championship Final Round for 4 games and won all 4 games.
The other opening was the Ponziani Opening which is a White opening which starts 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6
3. c3. I also played this opening in the 7th USA Correspondence Championship and scored 2 wins and
1 draw. My final score in the USA Championship was 13 wins and 1 draw and no losses and I am
the 7th USA Correspondence Champion.
The book on the Ponziani is "play the Ponziani" and is on sale per Amazon.
