It Takes an Island Growing food (10,000 lbs. ) with and for kids.

What a beautiful thing, from every side and for everyone!
The place is phenomenal from it's sense of community. Unfortunately, that has been reduced as of late. Still there has been a huge use of technology to try and keep things going. I am going to include another item from this island we call home.
Last year I introduced my then 2.5 year old granddaughter to the joys of fresh picked tomatoes right off the vine. This year I am hoping to introduce my now 2 year old grandson to the same joys. Grandson's exposure depends on the Covid figures in our area. He is coming to dinner tonight, but the tomatoes are not ripe yet. They will be back here for dinner in August unless the numbers rise.
I think it is good to help kids learn where food comes from. Too many think everything comes from the grocery store. Good for you.
@JackPedigo Granddaughter SamSam came over several times while the tomatoes were ripe, and each time asked to go out in the yard, and then headed straight for the tomatoes. She's a smart little kid. And of course both of the grands have Grammy wrapped around their little fingers.
@HippieChick58 Maybe she'll be interested in helping grow them next year.
@JackPedigo I am trying to persuade her folks to plant a garden. They live about 30 minutes away so the time I have with her is limited. They were here last night and we talked about the tomatoes last year, and she remembered. And when we went outside she proceeded to pick a very green one. I told her we have to wait til they are red. Grandson was very much more interested in the balls in the yard.
@HippieChick58 There are recipes for fried green tomatoes. It was one of my late partner's favorite.
@JackPedigo That was a tiny cherry tomato, about the size of my fingernail.
