I am currently trying to get rid of ivy growing in my courtyard trying to overtake everything.

Smother it with black plastic with mulch, to hold the plastic down. . You have to put a barrier , edging, deep enough so the tentacles can't go under it. Spray carefully each leaf that appears outside of the smothered area.. I use Ortho weed killer (Glyphosate) as I boycott Monsanto which makes Round Up.
As I struggled trying to pull their root and eventually breaking it by the ground, I would dream of creating a poison I could inject on that broken spot that would go down to its roots and would finish the job.
Use Glyphosate full strength apply directly to the open wound on the broken stem will finish a lost of it off. I cut it about an inch above the ground so in case it comes back I have a good access point.
You could try a systemic weedkiller, but you will have to add lots of washing-up liquid to the mix, since the wax on ivy leaves resists take up. But perhaps the best way is to put weedkiller in bowls, cut the stem ends and pin them down so that they are in the bowls of weedkiller. That will get them to take it up and transport it through the whole plant.
Good luck, one piece of missed root 1" long will quickly run amok. Your best bet, although ugly in the short term, is some kind of spray-on weed killer.
Ivy can be a bitch to get rid of, it is very tenacious.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
