The well known Christmas decoration Poinsettia has an interesting if, slightly sad history, in cultivation. Note though. Please don't self experiment with any of the medical uses mentioned, the sap is very caustic, and dangerous to handle at the very least.

I purchased two Poinsettias this year, which marks the first time in ten years I’ve done anything to acknowledge the season. One year, way back, I spent Christmas in Hawaii and saw a house whose entire front garden was solid Poinsettias…it was spectacular. I love the red ones, and now the pink ones, too.
