88 degrees with a "feels like" of 93. But the heat and sun and lots of rain have caused the gardens to burst forth in bloom. Which brings out the pollenators. We spied this fellow in a hosta bed this afternoon. Hummingbird Hawk Moth. One of my favorite "creatures":

I see them occasionally on Monarda, Penstemon and the plainest of Hostas.
I have seen two larvae on my Arrowood Viburnum

arent they amazing? I remember being in a black berry patch somewhere near Lexington. THere was a virtual swarm of these guys. NO fear and I was able to watch them a long time

Ahh, the hawk moth! That's where horned tomato worms come from.

I didn't know that.

Tomato Horn worms come from a different hawk moth, but yes.
Hemaris thisbe, the Hummingbird Clearwing Moth, gets its start on members of the honeysuckle family.

Enlightening. I've a virtual wall of honeysuckle on one side of my property... I was wondering where those guys were coming from.
