Beautiful colours. Do you have snowy winters or are you a bit milder on the coast?
@CeliaVL
The first 2 photos were taken today. We do get less snow than the interior of Nova Scotia. Closer to the coast we get more rain while the interior gets snow, but we still get a lot of snow in the Halifax area. I'm across the harbour from Halifax in Dartmouth.
The third photo was taken a few years ago showing a heavy snowfall overnight.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I like to add another flower I consider a true blue flower. It's one of my favourite flowers. I think the blue of the Gentiana is more vibrant than the delphinium. Gentiana is more of an ornamental plant and stays small and compact compared to the giant delphinium.
What do you guys think?
What a brilliant color! Stunning! Makes me look forward to Spring even more
Wow! That is stunning! At some point I am going to actually work on true flower beds instead of just buying things and putting them anywhere.
@Heidi68 @Alvinsmama @Livinlife
The Gentiana is over 10 years old and planted in our rock garden.
Decided to show what our rock garden looks like with a few more photos.
@flower_nut that is really beautiful!
I haven't figured out how to do beds - I just have individual plants everywhere. Especially roses.
@flower_nut Beautiful! Keep the photos coming
Gentian was an old remedy for poison ivy rash. My mom once had to start at a new school after a week of soaking in baths of the stuff had turned her skin purple... flying purple people eater ?
@Justjoni
Never heard that one before.
It's a very pretty blue, who knew the clue was in a hue that fixed you
@Livinlife
I have thousands of photos taken this year but the garden wasn't as perfect as it has been in the past. I'm hoping to amend things next year to give the flowers more help. In the meantime, I have lots to share.
@Heidi68
I think roses are in a category of their own when it comes to a garden bed but that's my opinion. We had one in the garden before with other plants and it dominates over other flowers. They require more work and I consider them high maintenance mixed with other flowers.
The rock garden in the photo took the most work of all the gardens we have except Stone Henge. This small area has several plants that like acidic soil and some that like it alkaline. It's almost like going against the grain when planting a garden. As long as you know what the plant needs and give it to them the garden does fine. It does require an application each spring to keep the soil in check for certain plants.
@flower_nut maybe that is my problem. I am addicted to roses.... the challenge is exasperating & fulfilling at the same time.
@Heidi68
You either love them or don't have any. I would have to sacrifice the delphinium patch for a rose bush. Everyone is familiar with a rose and every other yard has one.
@flower_nut I have 10..... here's a few
@Heidi68
Roses are yellow
some are pink
making me mellow
how people think
What a good range, the great thing about seed is that you can always get something special that just turns up out of the blue.
@Fernapple
The seeds don't seem to spread to other gardens. I'm not sure how many different seeds we planted but there should have been 8 different delphiniums. We only have 5.
Beautiful!
@Livinlife
Thanks! They stand out from a distance especially the sky blue one
@flower_nut Ill bet! I love plants
The colors are amazing!
@Heidi68
The sky blue colour is brightest of the bunch. I can't help but notice it first.
@flower_nut blue is my favorite color - I wish there were more blue flowers.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing.
@Artistlover
It's fun sharing my garden. Thank you.
