Has anyone grown a THUJA GREEN GIANT tree?

If you have, please tell me your experience.

Last fall I planted some small ones I had ordered from Arbor day. They will be part of my screening hedge. I do hope those tender young thing survived our recent cold snap. I planted a lot of trees last year and fear for their survival of the cold.

They make a nice easy to care for hedge. They will grow new leaves/branches from the trunk if you have to cut back hard. I like them 🙂

Good question.

Grows quick and the foliage is scented a bit like oranges, but not everyone likes the smell so sniff one before you buy.

Good point but how close do you have to be to smell them?

@FrayedBear Think it must depend on your nose, I have a very bad nose and can not smell them until I get to within a few feet, but some people may smell them at a much greater distance, most people tell me that they are amazed by how poor my smell is. You can certainly smell them when clipping of course, and I find the dust extremely irritatiing even on the skin, but if you do not intend to clip that is not a problem.

@Fernapple Thanks for that insight. The books don't tell you!

Yes, I have in central NY. They do well. Thuja plicata Deer don't like them. A protected spot is best.

I'm not familiar with those but I have found, through the years, that the smaller the tree is when you start it the faster they grow. I started a 2" Redbud seedling last spring. By Sept it was five feet tall.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
