I also posted this one in Natural History, but it works here too. With the hard winter coming on, this is something to think about, and most of it works all round the Atlantic.
I only feed the birds in the winter and that with suet. Birds need fat to help them through the winter. I also built a roosting box. [thespruce.com] Birds enter from the bottom and there are several perches inside. I open it periodically for cleaning. Maybe I should build a few more.
Never tried a roosting box, it sounds very worth while, I think that I will give it a go, thanks for the hint.
@Fernapple And I should build another. Taking another look at my picture I noted the row of Poplar trees in the background. I believe they're called candlestick Poplars as the top leaves are the last to drop so they look like lit candles.
