brilliant
@psycheworks Thanks! Rogan's not too bad, either!
The Noah tale (even modified versions) require a stupidly huge amount of water falling from the sky to cover the entire earth in 40 days killing everything but 1 family and their newly acquired pets. People have done various back-of-the-envelope calculations about the thickness of the clouds required for this (postulated on whether anything could survive even leading up to it), the amount of water, and the structure required of the ark to not break under the torrential rain. The ark people and animals were able to walk out afterwards and continue living and populating the earth like nothing ever happened. Once someone accepts this tale as fact (through faith), climate change increasing sea levels by 2.3m per degree celcius over the next 2000 years without the crazy rain is not really much of a threat.
We will have to figure out very different strategies of communicating with these people to help them understand reality. I have no idea how.
staggering isn't it
The most frustrating response is, It's God, so that is the answer that explanes anything improbable.
If it written in large print then it must be true.TOOTH FAIRY.
So many people believe it, therefore, it must be true. Fuck me, it's so obviously BS it hurts my brain to think I live in an age where science is offered less respect than a book full of voodoo, and faith has more value than physical evidence. I would laugh if it wasn't so sad.
@paul1967 I am no expert here but it seems very obvious that religion makes money for some.
I visited a church in Florida many years ago as a guest of the folks I was staying with. Most of the congregation gave money and I was told it was distributed amongst the needy.Where did the upkeep of the church and vicar s wages come from?
@Xanadutoo Oh yeah, its a scam worthy of a deity. Here's what you get if you believe and give 10% You live your life in fear of hell and if you keep giving you get to own a mansion in heaven with streets of gold and everlasting happiness. It's perfect because once they're dead they can't come back and ask for their money back.
