Up until the 1930s' it was still legal to marry an 8 year old in Delaware... That law was written by Christians who actively fought to preserve their "god given right" to marry children....

In some places small children get married to link families together but not to live with each other or have sex. After a reaching an age where the child can reproduce, it becomes another thing. Therefore, Edgar Allen Poe's marriage to a 13 year old is considered legit for that time.
This belief carries on in the gruesome backwoods proverb "If it's old enough to bleed, it's old enough to stab."

@OldMetalHead I think she was very young too. She was the daughter of Mohammad's top man (I forget his name) and was used to cement the relationship between the two men. Nobody knows what went on between the two in the marriage, if anything. From what can be read, Aisha was very much her own woman in an oppressive society, recorded as being very vocally cynical about her husband's messages from God and even lead an army in defence of Mohammad's nephew' claim to the caliphate (if I remember right).
@arizonajerry69 I think there is so much clearly wrong about Mohammad that it's unnecessary (and i think wrong) to accuse him of being a paedophile.We might as well accuse this man of being a paedophile:
