Lincoln knew to throw a party. I always looked Ford to it.
It was (the Party of Lincoln)....until Nixon's campaign to get the Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats) to shift allegiance from the Dems (Kennedy) to the GOP (Nixon) due to differences in their thoughts on Civil Rights (among many things).
Realize I am oversimplifying it but the South wasn't alway part of the Republican Party as allegiances shift.
I find some hope in remembering the Luddites at the start of the Industrial Revolution and believing that the current anti-intellectualism is just history repeating itself.....
