I get this all the time "How can you be an atheist when you look at a beautiful sunset, or a rainbow?" I usually reply that those things have natural explainable causes. Now I guess I have another reply. Thanks.
If there was a god making beautiful things happen, he's also responsible for unfair sad things.
As Christianity requires the accuracy of Genesis, yes, tell us how the Grand Canyon was carved in 6000 years, and why all the rocks appear to be millions (or billions) of years older than that?
Their answer: "Satan, the Great Deceiver, is deceiving you.".
My retort to such numbskulls: "Yes, the Great Deceiver is deceiving you.".
It takes a prize idiot to claim "It's hard to be an atheist when you're looking at the Grand canyon". Jeffrey Kluger clearly had his non-existent brain given to him by his non-existent god. [friendlyatheist.patheos.com]
Good one! But to me, after beginning to wean myself from the theology I was taught, even in the religious college I attended, my first visit to the Grand Canyon convinced me that what I was seeing couldn’t have possibly been caused by a 40-day biblical flood, some 4 or 5 thousand years ago!
In the words of M. Python esq
All things dull and ugly,
All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.
Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom.
He made their horrid wings.
All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.
Each nasty little hornet,
Each beastly little squid
Who made the spikey urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!
All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.
Amen.
