"Selection for Tuskless Elephants
Working in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique, Dr. Joyce Poole and colleagues make a striking observation: many female elephants lack tusks. Most African elephants have tusks, but some–about 2 to 6% of females and even fewer males—never grow them ... But the proportion of tuskless elephants has increased [dramatically] in some populations."

I wonder if they will make a comeback?

They are on the way to doing that. A graph shows how much the population is growing back.

I have also heard that sea fish are getting smaller and becoming sexually mature at smaller sizes. Because of course we fish for them with nets, and smaller fish pass through the mesh.

That is fascinating ... clever sea fish living their lives with natural selection.

It could change the whole ecology, since elephants have a big effect on the flora and if tuskless elephants dig and bark strip less, then that could lead to all sorts of changes.

...hunting has clearly eliminated the big-tusked elephants.

Contributing to their endangerment, all males still have tusks.

@AnonySchmoose I would have clicked the "sad" emoji but it didn't show in the choices this AM. Good morning to you....don't let the bad AM news get you down
