Published today in Science, "The global tree restoration potential” report found that there is enough suitable land to increase the world’s forest cover by one-third without affecting existing cities or agriculture. However, the amount of suitable land area diminishes as global temperatures rise." ........................................................................................................................................
How could you make enough space to plant a mini-forest where you live?
Mini-forests sequester water and help prevent floods.
I love the "tree optimism" but science doesn't support the idealism.
Earth covers only 30% of the planet. Of that, once that land was 60% forests...that's been reduced to 30%
But remember; 60% of 30% is only 18%. 30% of 30% is only 9%...of today's forest (trees) coverage of land...compared to the entire surface.
The Oceans - and the plant-like organisms (actually pre-plant phytoplankton) are the thankless providers for most of our Oxygen, and the majority "sink" for CO2.
And phytoplankton exist almost everywhere...and yes...they are being reduced by oceanic polltution.

I cannot plant a ‘mini forest,’ because I would need to water them, but I am planting trees as we write!
I had to water my trees regularly in the first few years, but now only when there is a long hot dry period. There is enough shade relief from burning sun and soil is storing more moisture now.
@AnonySchmoose I wish that were true here! But, rain either goes around this area or it never gets here! We have had no more than a handful of 15-20min rains in the last 8 months! And 2 that lasted a day! With 90-100 degree temps and wind...not much has a chance to hold on to much moisture! But, I am happy to leave the wild and native plants that seem to thrive without water! Lol
I think this is only part of the solution. Renewable energy, recycling everything possible, saving bees and insects must also be included.
Creatures need good healthy habitat. My mini-forest has bees and many other insects. As a mini-ecosystem, every life form currently thrives in it.
@AnonySchmoose The yellow poinciana in my front yard is covered in bees (and zero pesticides are used). Hearing the buzzing as I walk past makes me happy.
