What do you think about nuclear energy especially for electricity generation?
Here is an interesting and helpful document.

We will always need energy... How do we get it depends on number of factors. If things get down to nuclear as the last resource then there you go, that will be the answer

Absolutely Necessary!

Nanogenerators will be able to replace a lot of the current (pun intended) energy production resources.

Until we have a safe long-term solution for nuclear waste, there is simply no point in working towards this.

it's also ridiculous to burn perhaps the most expensive fuel on the planet.

And, using a system with zero room for failure.

Remember Murphy's Law.

The waste products can destroy a biosphere.
The idea of storing all the nuclear waste under a pimple of the desert was ludicrous at best.
If there were simply an accounting problem, if the water level rose and corroded
the containers, a nuclear plume could have destroyed the biosphere, or at least the northern hemisphere.

Then, we have the problem of transporting nuclear waste. On highways, and railroads, through cities.
Has anyone ever heard of the word accident? How about terror attacks. A simple RPG could take one out.

We can supply all the energy we need with clean, safe renewable sources.
Back in the 1960s Grumman was proposing making energy from the waves.
There are tons of energy sources in nature we just have to tap. All it
takes is creativity and seeing the obvious.

I'm pro-nuke in that it can be done safely.
Storage of spent fuel rods is the most problematic point.

I do prefer renewable energy sources such as wind/hydro/solar though. Would really like to see some big efforts put in.

The only time I think about nuclear energy I think of Chernobyl and Three Mile Island and nuclear waste disposal.

Having said that I think the only problem with producing energy is the number of people we are producing energy for.
My proposal would be to make accidental births a thing of the past by making all insurance companies pay for vasectomies and sperm storage. Make it common, acceptable and normal for males to get vasectomies at 16 to 21. Having to be sober and make some effort to impregnate a female would, I think, reduce the population considerably over one generation reducing the need to find more energy sources along with thousands of other benefits to the humans.

@Anonbene Paul Eulic would agree. But attempts at population control have resulted in abysmal failures.
Sadly, when any species population goes out of control, there will be a rebound. Perhaps humans will create their own destruction with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Or, considering Murphy's Law, it's amazing that no deadly militarized germ hasn't been released. If it can be imagined, it can be done.

@Bob4Health

My personal attempt at population control has been a resounding success.

As an alternative to quick widespread death by war, nuclear contamination or disease, because we have too many people, isn't all that appealing either. I say we give this idea a shot.

If you have sons maybe talk to them about 18 years of child support payments to a one-night stand woman you wouldn't talk to if you were sober and a kid you didn't want but are obligated to for the rest of your life.

@Anonbene, OF course, you are correct. It just doesn't seem to be within human nature. Look at what happened in China. One child policy. virtually all the children were male. We can't legislate it.

We can handle far more people first by moving towards a plant-based diet, which would allow us to feed the world with 1/10th the land, use 1/100th the water while reducing the
cost and demand on our healthcare systems.

We could build using much more logical uses of space and energy. Urban sprawl is not the future

We have plenty of energy available.
