I walked into a cafe somewhere in the Deep South of Oxfordshire -the village of Stoke Row, and found this enamelled metal notice
[agnostic.com]
and spent a useful half hour comparing the nature of the advertised group with that of agnostic .com .
The latin approximately translates to " Never happy except complaining in a petulant or whining manner "
apparently according to another local female resident the local "Goddesses" are in a warring mood and formulating an alternative meet up.
The Gods meet Friday at 10am
We had an expression that we used to use about a friend’s mother when I lived in Edinburgh....and it wasn’t in Latin but in the Scots tongue.....”she ‘s never happy unless she’s greetin’”. Greetin’ in this case is Scottish vernacular for complaining. So much the same thing. Didn’t the TV comedies Grumpy Old Men / Women spring to mind too!
Nisi nunquam felicibus queribundus
Only happy when complaining (or moaning in the colloquial sense)
Like it.
Can this phrase be more applicable to brexiteers or remainers or Both. Wish someone would come up with something positive that had a chance of working.
@Mcflewster Well I suppose since remainers are often know as remoaners
Shall I give it a go - or wait until after the war?
