Just read a few comments regarding Stephen Hawkins new book, and the only conclusion I came up with.
Common sense VS god.God wins.

I would usually rather trust science than god. Science and 'common sense'[of whatever variety ] are not always equivalent.

Can you give me an example of the contrasts between god, Hawkins and common sense?

I was being facetious. It was flagged up on "live science" and I read a few of the comments the largest group were making a mockery of Stephen.I do not have the knowledge of science or the intelligence to criticize Stephen.I looked at most of their Facebook pages and saw an American flag and the promotion of religion some in forces uniform(a hero)so I held back any comments .Their pictures were of happiness,I didn't have the heart to say wheres your god?
One person implied that Stephen will now find out how wrong he was.

Sounds like a take on Pascal’s wager. Besides, if common sense was all that was relied upon we'd still be hunting and gathering! Exploring outside of our boxes is what makes life fun. Without that we become utilitarian beasts and inhabit he dystopia of Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’

How can a non-existant win at anything?

As a Social Scientist, we grade common sense as unenlightened people trying to explain phenomena through the rules and norms of their culture. As such, if that cannot explain it, then it must be gods work.

Must it?

@Mcflewster Usually. It may be a power thing where those in charge cannot be seen to unable to answer the question.

This is classic "god of the gaps". However, as science progresses and the gaps get filled, gods are further reduced to temporary placeholders for better explanations.
