We need no “commandments “ that will never work. We just need to draw up a manifesto of tolerance and civility towards all. There must be rules and laws if we wish to live in a civilised manner, but they have always been around since our earliest ancestors lived ....those who violated the tribal mores were swiftly cast out. Morality is just common sense and good manners, it is in our own interest to treat others as we wish them treat us...cooperation brings more benefit that separation. I can’t see this ever happening, but it is an interesting concept.
You don’t need science academics and spirituality types to write them or you are back to Moses with a different face. We are old enough and experienced enough now to do it ourselves. We don’t need the ideas to be set in stone or any other print media for that matter. Just imprint what is right on your heart
Anything withe the word command in it will not work.
I see no need. It’s all covered in various secular philosophies and schools of thought.
The 2 suggestions
Be kind to one another
Don't be an asshole
that about covers it
Look on the web and you will find dozens, it has been done a lot of times already. But the real question is what is the point unless someone is going to enforce it, without a church or some central authority it is just another version on the pile. It would be great if some government establishment would give people the chance to vote, which is the democratic will and the only authority available now, on something like a constitution, for the state, the continent or even the UN, but they won't. And without a vote what standing would it have. And what could the world agree on, anyway? While if you put in something meaningful such as. "You will not govern people without their consent." That may have been possible in the 18th century when they penned the American constitution, but no political establishment would let people vote on something as dangerous to them as that is, today.
I THINK the world would agree with more self responsibility.
@Mcflewster I do not know, their are a lot of people who think that we should give more of our responsiblity over to the state, strangely they are usually people who make their money within the state system. I think that it is a perfect example of the fact that there is nothing even a good percentage of people will agree.
So to include a vegan slant on coverting neighbours oxen as well? Thou shalt not covert thy neighbours beetroot?
Good point, I Love beetroot.
