With this morning’s news of a leadership challenge to Theresa May, what do you think the outcome will be when the Tories vote on the no confidence motion this evening?

Watching from afar it all seems a bit out of control. If she can finish what Cameron started that would be good, and by the time the election comes round hopefully it won’t be Bumbling Boris or Rees/ Mogg in the Tory’s big chair.

I wouldn’t bet too much money on any outcome....we are in uncharted waters in a leaky lifeboat at present!

I think she will win.We should have realised from the start that May's heart was not in the job.Our country over the last two years has been on hold.
Universal Credit had not been thought out so people have suffered.
There was no way we were going to get a good deal leaving when we couldn't get a good deal when we were in the EU.We subsidised the French farmers so where will they get that money from now Germany?I know it is not that straight forward.

Yes, she probably will win I agree. The rest I’m not so sure.

Vote result is immaterial as it is the hard line Brexiteers which must be ousted. Mrs May has said that she will not lead the next government , but has a tight grip on this postman's delivery leg and will not let go until she is pushed perhaps by a parliamentary vote on lack of confidence.

Agree.

I think May will win but the Conservatives will lose the Commons vote on the final Brexit deal. I hope Labout will then bring a vote of no confidence in the government. We need a general election.

Agreed on both counts.

I dread to think. May needs to go as she's both evil and incompetent, but her replacement is likely to be evil and competent.

Jnei Level 8 Dec 12, 2018

I don’t believe she is evil, incompetent...yes. It will make no difference if she is ousted tonight, the alternatives will not get a better deal from the EU. What we need is a General Election to get the Tories out.

Oh, I quite agree with Jnei, she is evil. She sees the misery she's causing to ordinary people and, instead of trying to help, she doubles down on her policies and twists statistics to make it look like she's helping, then attacks Corbyn by blaming Blue Labour for all the problems people are facing eight years down the line. She can't possibly be so stupid as to believe all the dren that comes out of her mouth, even if she's just a puppet for her tax-dodger-helping husband (which is a hypothesis I've seen discussed before) so she must know some of what she's doing to people but, like every good villain, shrugs, hides it from the good guys as best she can and gets on with general villainy.

@Marionville In my view, she's continued austerity and the roll-out of Universal Credit which makes her evil and has made an utter hash of Brexit (which was always going to be a mess anyway) which makes her incompetent. I dread to think, however, what Britain is going to be like if we end up with Boris or Jacob, both of whom represent all that wrong with this country.

I quite agree that what we really need is a change of government.

@Jnei I meant I don’t believe in the concept of evil...full stop. It is a religious construct. I think the Tories are uncaring and callous, without doubt, but changing their leader will not change their basic philosophy.

@Marionville I'm using it here as a metaphor for callousness, self-interest and total lack of care for those who most need it.

You're entirely correct that a change of leadership won't improve matters, because if she'd deposed the next prime minister will also be a Tory and all Tories are at least a bit evil (metaphor again). Hopefully, it'll introduce enough uncertainty that a general election will be called - but Corbyn is going to have to consolidate Labour's position on Brexit to be in with a chance of winning. Right now, the most likely outcome looks to me like another five years of the Conservatives, only under a stronger leader.

@Marionville I do not believe in evil either . It is the same as 'Lack of empathy' > Mrs May has shown plenty of missing empathy e.g.Grenfell and WINDRUSH

I think Mayhem is history. Unfortunately, the likely candidates to replace her are even worse. What we need is to get a vote of no confidence in the government itself and try to force an early election.

Jalnor Level 6 Dec 12, 2018

I agree, I can’t understand why Jeremy Corbyn didn’t support the calls from the SNP and others to table a vote of no confidence in the government last weekend.

Indeed.
