Today it’s an all-Celtic affair with a Breton-Irish collaboration from Briezh Pan Celtic, a tie-up between a traditional Celtic music group in Brittany and a school of traditional harpists in Laois, Ireland. They perform the theme from the 1992 film Last Of The Mohicans, which was composed by Scottish musician Dougie MacLean, against a suitably rugged background in Brittany and Ireland.

M: do you know the name of the very un-penny whistle starting the piece? I see later a boy playing a penny whistle.
The guitar strings are very loose. I suppose classical strings.
This music I think lies deep withing my bones maybe from my Scottish Heritages (Bruce on Paternal, Graham of Menteith maternal) from ages past.

I think it’s just called an Irish long Penny-whistle Roger. Yes it’s the music of our ancestors…and it speaks to us. I feel the same pull to Nordic music which has common ancestry with the Celtic…they say that most Scots have a high percentage of Norse DNA..and although I’ve never had it tested, I’d wager mine is pretty high!

@Marionville I remembered that those types of whistles "correctly" are called flageolets.

@rogerbenham Of course they are…and certainly they’d be called that in Brittany.

So beautiful! Love the harpsichord sound in this piece! The music throughout this movie was so fantastic! 😍

Yes…the whole score was brilliant!
