I missed posting this on St.Andrews Day…Scotland’s national day, because I was travelling to England to visit my son on 30th November. I thought I’d make up for my omission now even if it is almost three weeks late! Highland Cathedral was written by two German musicians believe it or not, but it has become a very popular tune for the bagpipes and sung it has been mooted as a possible Scottish national anthem. Ulrich Roever & Michael Korb wrote it for a Highland Games which were held in Cologne in 1982, and subsequently it was adopted by the Hong Kong Police as their anthem and was played at the ceremonial lowering of the Union Flag at the Governor’s residence on the last day of British rule in 1997, when control was handed back to China.

Wonderful music, fantastic singing!! I found out I am half Irish last year, but I think I might have some Scottish in me too because I so love the music!!

It’s called Castle Rock because Edinburgh Castle sits on it…and it’s right in the centre of the city…it’s the city of my birth and where I lived until I got married and left to live in Northern Ireland.
