A modern classical piece that’s interesting. Go to the final portion @12 minutes and one will see this is definitely a Scottish piece.

Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who was actually English and who was made Master of the Queen’s Music in 2004, a very prestigious role for a classical musician…usually a composer/conductor to hold. He was quite a controversial figure in his time, being gay and at the forefront of gay and environmental campaigns. He moved to Sanday in the Orkney Islands where he made his home many years before his death, hence the interest in writing music related to the Scottish Isles, The Orkneys in particular. The whole piece has quite a Scottish feel to it…leading up of course to the entrance of the pipe major with his bagpipe finale.

Thank you as it's always good to have some history to augment a piece of art. Again, I discovered this work in the latest Alexander McCall Smith novel "The Conditions of Unconditional Love" in the Isabel Dalhousie series. This series is devoted to philosophy and just came out.
