Next weekend I’m travelling to Brittany in France to perform a joint concert with a French choir from Plerin-sur-Mer on the north west coast. Our town in Northern Ireland is twinned with Plerin, and we have had an association with them since the 1970s. For the past 25 years or so the two Choirs have been alternating between the two countries and this year it’s our turn to visit them. We will be hosted in their own homes and treated to all sorts of Breton hospitality, including entertainment. I expect we will be hearing a selection of their folk music during the weekend, so here is sample of what we may hear. This Breton folk group is called Soazig and they are singing Ar Soudarded. The Breton language is one of the Celtic languages, so you will hear the similarities to Irish and Scots Gaelic.

That was different! I haven't heard that sound since Alan Stivell a few decades ago.

Enjoy your trip. That sounds like a lot of fun!
