I think the question we need to address is: "Knowing that the protest will fail, does this mean we shouldn't take a stand?"
I'm still divided on this one, perhaps time and effort could be deployed to more practical ends.
@rcandlish . Making an effort to help the cause and/or recruit some members who might help it grow and succeed would be a good way to start even if you knew it was a temporary patch. Any help is good, sort of like throwing a life preserver and letting someone else hold the rope. The idea is to keep it growing.
@rcandlish what other options do we have? Stay with the status quo? Vote for the proverbial left tea party in the Libertarian party as they falsely attempt to portray themselves? Which is basically another strong arm of the republican party when it comes down to their essential policies. We're fighting for the lives of our children and grand children here. Those that come after them. For it will be a matter of time to wash away over 4 decades of what brought us to this point in time. I think we have room and time for a few candidates that may struggle to answer the call to serve while more prominent candidates over time fill in the cracks. Their advisers will lessen the blows, where today we are at a free fall towards austerity and fascism of nationalism that is only necessary to keep the present agenda of killing the middle class in support of inequality. I personally can live with that trade off for a while. Once the pillars of main street business, millionaires who have voiced concern towards inequality, and they are out there, and companies that are geared towards employee profit sharing, see a strong movement taking forth they will introduce their savvy to the party, filling in those cracks. We only need to give them a reason to come out of the shadows.
