Capitalism is a part of Democratic Socialism just as it is in Bernie Sander's proposals. Their goals in this "Green New Deal" do seem very lofty, at least in a 10 year span. I doubt it happens.
"The document states that the newly-formed committee would be required to complete its plan by January 2020 and publish its draft legislation by March 2020, immediately prior to the next presidential elections. Any such documents would be wholly aimed at providing some popular appeal to the Democrats’ election campaign. They would be permanently shelved immediately after the election, regardless of the outcome."
This is a distinct possibility, but I'm sure Cortez and the other Democratic Socialists have less leeway and have to "obey" their Democratic Party masters. They have no real influence in the party yet. I'm sure the timing isn't their doing, but the actual Democratic Party leaders. The establishment is using them to their own benefit. I wouldn't be surprised if the deal gets shelved though. This is the beginning of the Democratic Socialist movement. It might be a sham, or it might take 20 years or so to get anything done, or they might just get stonewalled all the time no matter their good intentions. We also have to leave room for the possibility that the Democratic Socialists just aren't too politically astute yet. I fear their integration into the Democratic Party regulars will sway them in the opposite direction of what they seemingly intend. Like I said, maybe they're just a sham to begin with.
I'm still not judging Cortez and the other Democratic Socialists yet, but it of course doesn't look like a great start so far, even though they didn't even start yet. This, along with her seemingly contradictory language, is enough to give pause. I also agree that it is hard to change the corrupt system from within when all the influence is already with the corrupt in power within the Party.
Is the U.S. political system destined to remain the way it is?
