Consortium News’ Record on Russia-gate—How CN Covered the ‘Scandal’: No. 3—‘The Tangled Threads of Russia-gate’

Once a Washington groupthink takes hold, as it has in the fervent belief about Russia-gate, respect for facts and logic fly out the window since all these important people can’t be wrong, wrote Robert Parry on Dec. 5, 2017.

[consortiumnews.com]

(Note how the Times’ reference to “Russian interference” was treated as flat fact although the Times still hedges on “possible collusion” between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign. Like much of the U.S. mainstream media, the Times no longer bothers to use “alleged” in front of “Russian interference” even though no solid evidence of a coordinated Kremlin effort has been presented.)

In other words. They haven't even established a means of collaboration yet and have already moved to certain interference. Which Parry rightfully brings to light in the next paragraph, why a need for an operative to meet Trump at this conference.

(But there is a bigger problem with this “scoop”: If the Russia-gate narrative were correct – that the Kremlin had identified Trump years earlier as a likely U.S. president and undertook a multi-year campaign to bribe and blackmail him to be Moscow’s Manchurian candidate or Putin’s “puppet” as Hillary Clinton charged – the Russians wouldn’t need some little-known “conservative operative” to serve as an intermediary in May 2016 to set up a back-channel meeting.)

I think it was trump's own words and actions that started the whole Russia thing. During his campaign he spent a certain amount of time mentioning Russia in positive tones, capped off with asking Russia to find those emails which magically soon appeared. Then it was the removal of Russian sanctions from the Republican platform during his minions negotiating with the RNC. He furthered it after inauguration by bringing Russians into the oval office and referring to the fired FBI director as a nut job. It has gone on and on during his term in office, so he has, in effect, manipulated the media into a collusion frame of mind so he could reiterate his innocence. The trump tower in Moscow, the income from his Washington DC hotel, everything he does is to create suspicion over him. He never really wanted to be president, he just wanted to win what he considered some kind of competition.

Since Trump has been president there have been more sanctions placed on Russia. 2 or 3 times now. Russian diplomats have been kicked out of the US. They, the Russian's, are being threatened with war like talk at this very moment for supporting Maduro and being in Venezuela.

There is no Trump tower in Moscow.

What Russians were or are in the oval office? I don't think the meeting of Trump and Putin ever took place. It was widely frowned on and the offer never produced a meeting. If you're talking about people from his administration, these things always happen between countries. Especially when it comes to X military and intelligence agents, such as in Flynn's case. These people do work in other nations abroad on a regular basis from both party affiliations. This all should have been a job the DOJ, senate, and congress, conducted as these people were brought up for confirmation before being confirmed and allowed into his administration. I have little doubt they knew Flynn was lying during his confirmation hearings. And they probably knew the other guy worked with the Turkish government. And the issue with Ukraine. Especially with Ukraine being it's so new and each party was involved with that overthrow and the money tied to it.

While I'll admit Trump's ridiculous rhetoric is cause for concern, it hardly validates the poor manor this false narrative has grown legs and still continues from main stream media. That one statement from a clown like Trump certainly doesn't provide cover for all the issues within that election cycle and the DNC's actions that are being ignored. There is so much more to this, that it's a sad time for humanity to still be engulfed in such an illusion keeping us from knowing the truth of 2016.

@William_Mary Widely covered in the "mainstream" media, trump's meeting in the oval office with Russian diplomats/oligarchs including the "ambassador to the US" wherein trump called Comey a nut job.
I agree the media went hog-wild with the whole idea, but my premise is that trump started the rumors during his campaign. Sanctions after his inauguration still doesn't explain why his negotiators insisted on removing them from the GOP platform in 2016. I agree that no one is blameless in this dog and pony show. Congress has shown that as long as they can keep these fires burning, they don't have to actually DO anything except get in front of TV cameras and puff out their chests. Our entire elected government appears to be full of corruption and possibly trump is the climax. In my little pea-brain mind, this is like the beginning of the end of the America I was raised to believe in. Whether or not that was a false picture, I don't know. I just know what I see now and I am no longer a proud american.

@SiouxcitySue I know, it sure makes one wonder how to think about our country today! I'm on board right there with you. And we would be looked on as traitors for questioning such issues 😟 Rather than having legitimate concerns for our family after us.
