I've argued with people before other places about the claim that Assange ran to the Ecuadorian embassy to get away from the Sweden rape charges. No, it's because the U.S. was hellbent on arresting him for bullshit charges ever since he dumped secrets about them doing horrible things. Those rape charges are so transparent it's ridiculous.

I mean come on, Hillary Clinton allegedly talked about droning Assange. If I was him I would have believed her too. She openly and publicly made fun of killing Qaddafi. "We came, we saw, he died!", while laughing her head off.

So, did he or did he not help Chelsea Manning hack into US government files to produce classified information for him to publish. I don't care about sex games and non-criminal non-charges. My understanding is Ecuador was fed up with him and he was a nasty guest and they didn't want to deal with him any longer. That may be simplistic but the media has published so much misinformation about this man, I don't know who's on first (don't say third base).

@powder Good question. I am very old fashioned and only use my cell phone as a two-way communication device as in a phone call or an occasional text. I don't have time or the inclination to "view" the junk that is put out to it by anyone else. Maybe its time we took more interest in who's running the government and what laws they're making and how they're enforcing them than what celebrity is sleeping with someone else's wife.

Chelsea Manning didn't hack into any government files. She was in a position as an Army intelligence analyst of having access to files in which she turned over to Wikileaks, making it a leak, not a hack.

“If you had free reign over classified networks… and you saw incredible things, awful things… things that belonged in the public domain, and not on some server stored in a dark room in Washington DC… what would you do?”

Manning went on to say, “God knows what happens now. Hopefully worldwide discussion, debates, and reforms… I want people to see the truth… because without information, you cannot make informed decisions as a public.“

The term hack has been a word, much as in the case of Russiagate, a sense of conditioning the public towards an illegal act. Both cases actually having been moral duties of insiders exposing truths, via copying information and leaking to the public who have the right to know what their tax dollars are being used for, in the Russiagate case, donations, and the falsification of democracy. If the establishment with the help of their MSM pound the word hack into our brains it's more effective towards building a false narrative. Which is why our government has been able to turn what was a legal action at one time into a crime today. From Nixon to Obama.

( Drake knows well what it means to blow the whistle on government misconduct and get prosecuted for it. A former senior NSA executive, Drake complained about a multi-billion-dollar fraud, waste, and widespread violation of the rights of civilians through secret mass surveillance programs. As a result, the Obama administration indicted Drake in 2010, “as the first whistleblower since Daniel Ellsberg charged with espionage,” according to the Institute for Public Accuracy.)

Also from that article....

(Hacking is something all modern nation-states engage in, including the United States, including Russia. The challenge here is trying to figure out who the players are, whose ox is being gored, and who is doing the goring.)

It's quite ironic our own government is conducting illegal acts on other nations and people while attempting to falsely prosecute and convict others. Obama none the less! Lets not forget that under the Obama administration it was caught hacking into several other nations computers and accounts of various politicians in Europe alone which lead to a public apology.

@William_Mary Excuse me for using the wrong word. Of course he didn't "hack" the files. He stole classified files. The fact that he had taken a pledge to defend them, regardless of what they contained which may have been, objectively, bad content, does not mitigate the theft.

@SiouxcitySue so you would prefer governments to get away with criminal acts at the cost of the public's tax dollars that go towards murder, unregulated surveillance, and oppression of democracy? While yet you voice such disdain towards Trump. That's quite confusing being all of that is exactly what has lead us to a Trump presidency.

The infamy of American, British, Australian and Swedish in this matter will end up being ranked alongside the horrors of Adolf's action against the mentally ill, the homosexuals, the Roma & Sinti and the Jews during their reign of terror.
