House Democrats give $4.6 billion for Trump’s concentration camps

Ocasio-Cortez plays critical role in ensuring passage

[wsws.org]

{The next day, after dropping her opposition, Ocasio-Cortez voted to bring the House version to the floor for a full vote. This critical vote passed by the slimmest of margins thanks to the support of Ocasio-Cortez and fellow “progressive” Democrats Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib. Later that day, the House version passed, handing the initiative to the Senate.}

How many times does this have to happen before her swooning lovers see the light!?! Every time she has a meeting with Pelosi she comes out a Pelosi. 2 other names in there that are always being propped up as progressives for the people. Omar and Tlaib. When these 3 had the power to stop a vote, rather than band together with the others, they showed their true colors. 7 democratic senators to busy campaigning for an election that is well over a year away can't be bothered for such an important issue to get on the floor to even raise some hellish lip service tail wagging to make themselves look good. I guess Sanders is just to old and out of breath.

{Democratic leadership then allowed Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley and Tlaib to cover their role by voting “no” for the final bill after passage was already secured.}

I'm not kidding when I tell you about the show on the floor. I have a good deal of my life spent watching cspan in the past. I watched this shit go on many of times. If they're up for reelection on important hairy legislature, they wait until the voting is about done and vote last. They gather around in a crowd by the speakers desk talking and you'll see them show up on the screen as voted when they see it's safe. They will not vote against their popular leading constituents unless they have to. Then they always have an excuse. Rock and a hard place for AOC. Hold that thought, I bet it becomes her recored message. Sanders was always, the bill has some good things in it. The Paul's were/are masters at fighting against a bill then voting for it anyways with no changes. Rand still works that pony show today. How often have they/he blocked a bill from going up for a final vote, then 2 to 3 days later getting nothing allow it. It's all lip service for his supports to keep him in favor for those few that want pot legalized. Believe that he's against wars and regime change. Actually believe when he talks about lower taxes he means for them.

I know I went soft on the border for a while, but I try not to wear things out, to much. But I think I've managed to get the jest of it in the open. There's a LOT of corruption and quite frankly a !LOT! of horrific inhuman activity going on down there. And this money isn't going to go towards solving that. A lot of people are going to make millions off that billions to make it look prettier as it's being done. And they'll find a way to use it to keep us from hearing less about it.

It would seem that blaming House Democrats like AOC would be missing the mark entirely. The real fault lies in the Senate, where Senate Democrats voted for the bill. Mitch MCConnell used that point to help leverage the House into complying. His point was that the bill received bi-partisan support in the Senate and, as a consequence, he would not allow any House bill that substantively differed to come to vote in the Senate.

Couple that with the leverage of the upcoming Congressional holiday and the harsh reality that, if the bill did not pass, that monies needed to support the children already in custody would expended. That would have resulted in worsened conditions for the children in custody.

The bottom line is that no matter what AOC did, the Senate would not respond and the children worse off. McConnell had rendered her helpless.

House Democrats had little choice. Stand and fight and the children are worse off or give in and protect the children to whatever extent they can.

So if they chose to fight Trump could just send in some gatling guns and wipe all the camps out? Problem solved? There's this thing called emergency funding of presidential orders that could also be implicated. Trump has no issues with using this measure at questionable times when it serves a purpose of his. To allow the situation to become any worse than it already is would be a major stain on all those representing us of all 3 houses. Allowing McConnell to dictate the process of law and morality is unacceptable in this unsanitary, inhumane issue. If there was ever a cause to fight this was it!

@William_Mary I agree, what McConnell has done is a travesty. But, there is no “allowing,” as you put it. His position has always had that power. The Democrats used a version of it to get Obama appointments through. McConnell has upped the ante and shown his ass for the world to see. If Democrats had fought and delayed the bill, it would be a political disaster. Republicans and Trump, with some justification, would blame the issues at the border on Democrats. That would be twisted, and to a great extent wrong since Trump created the problem. Unfortunately, the public will never remember whose fault it really is. The

@Walt1984 Trump created the problem? This problem is a creation of decades in the making. Trump is merely the one presiding over it now. You're essentially making an argument towards the very narrative of this group as you reference the relative nature between the parties. McConnell only has the power in which the entirety of the senate gives him. Forcing him to morally abuse that power is a means to check that power when his term is up and the duty of the opposition party. Not to cave in for more immorality.

Knowing and innocent person up for a firing squad, would you vote for that person to be put forth because others simply don't have a measure of concern for this person, or voice opposition to the end pleading his case on morality. This is basically the same as we have through decades created this issue with a lack of morality towards these people over profit, now as those actions present the outcome issues at our door step, more immorality is acceptable, over facing the truth of those actions through decades of action from both parties. Which is not being presented in their case! But they are being used as a false narrative in party divide to hide the real sense of the delusional reality of managed perception towards an agenda. In which actual debate over the reality could force policy changes in the future, should be changing policy in the future! Rather than expanding the delusion such as in Venezuela. What century must we finally have policies that catch up to our intelligence and lessons from history!?! Yea, 17th century colonialism tactics to me must come to an end.

@William_Mary No. Trump didn’t create the immigration problem. Trump has created the problem at the boarder where children are being separated from their parents and both children and parents incarcerated in numbers no previous Administration has.

An argument toward the nature of the group?

McConnell is abusing his power without help. And, as should be obvious, if his term is up, he will have no power to abuse. That is why effort is put forth to vote him out of office.

Nice strawman by the way, but is not really equivalent.

What policies would you have them adopt to deal with an influx of asylum seekers at our Southern border?

@Walt1984 to stop interfering in other countries affairs, especially those with democratic elected presidents who aren't harming anyone. And to take responsibility for those they have brought hard times on with their policies to benefit the worlds western globalist.

@William_Mary which is nice but doesn’t really address what you what you would do to fix the current issue at the border.

@Walt1984 "take responsibility for those they have brought hard times" I think that pretty much speaks for itself. Long term responsibility will stop the flow. Diplomacy and engage in real democratic elections for their country ironing out their economy, most will go back.

@William_Mary Taking responsibility... doesn’t really address what you would do, since it’s obvious Republicans have no intent on doing so and Democratic efforts to try and force the issue (that was your original suggestion, wasn’t it?) would appear to be fruitless, leaving those incarcerated worse off.

And, apparently, the Administration ignored Congress on both limiting the number incarcerated and the number of facilities. They opened three new incarceration facilities recently, despite there being no funding to do so.

To answer the question, it appears nothing can be done at the moment other than approve funding. Republicans in the Senate are hell bent on letting Trump do what he wants. And, Trump is hell bent on ignoring Congress and the Supreme Court to do what he wants.
