Shellac is one varnish that comes from this bug. [en.wikipedia.org] I wonder if one is a vegan should they not use such products? Had to laugh as having worked for a huge public accounting firm one thing the newby auditors had to do was go to a rendering plant to check their books. They hated that job. [modvegan.com]

😥 Bugs don't want to die for this.

Everything we eat comes from somewhere and was once alive, or still is.
Is it not cognitive dissonance to object to eating one living thing while happily munching down on another?

I would think so only if one knew about what one was eating. Seems, in some cases ignorance is bliss.

@JackPedigo I have to agree with you, I recall a school trip as a young child (8 or 9 years old) to a local farm and a few of the other kids throwing up on discovering where milk and eggs came from.
My brother too used to freak out his kids and wife by calling eggs chicken periods.

@LenHazell53 My late partner, a vegetarian, would answer kids in her 2nd grade class where meat came from. Most had a hard time believing it and some were even able to get their parents to convert to vegetarianism. Kids these days think everything comes from some sort of store. As we well know the ignorance in this country has gotten extremely dangerous.

@LenHazell53 They are chicken periods.
