Wait a minute, isn't that what the family did in "A Christmass story?"

Did they? Not seen it in years... I’ve got a bad cold and I’m the chef plus I’m vegan so Chinese to the rescue.

@ArdentAtheist Yes, their meal was so messed up because of accidents the family went out to the only open restaurant in town.
We were once on a road trip to S. California to see my daughter and stopped in a weird town. There were only 2 restaurants in the town Mexican and Chinese. We went to the Chinese to find it packed with Mexicans. It was mother's day and everyone wanted to take their mother out to dinner and being Mexican why would they go there? It was chaotic.

Often my family would have Chinese or Japaness take out on Martin Luther King. Dad was labelless but big on celebrations. We'd have the house flooded with holiday music. There would be a special meal. There would be a holiday story for the youngest generation, a dinner and a gift exchange aside from playing and chat. Mother had us decorate a tree with antique style glass ornaments, and everyone would receive several gifts from the adults. My better half's side would have nice celebrations as well, but though I was nice and productive when I lost him, I may a well be gone to the world in their eyes. I'll see what I can do with time.
