Thanks! I'm doing 4 out of 7. Plus I don't use the plastic produce bags. I recycle the mesh bags that some produce comes in, like lemons, onions, etc. Bring them to the store with my reusable bags, they work perfectly. When I buy bulk items I take my own containers instead of the bags or plastic containers provided.

We just had a program on this from our solid waste group. The program is called Y2Z (year to zero) and it is about informing people of the different things they can do to reduce or eliminate trash. One thing I learned is that recycling is not cost effective!! It costs more to recycle than to simply throw away. The programs have been created only as a way to reduce digging holes. Several years ago it was shown that 100 box cars full of trash, 6 days a week were going to a huge landfill in Oregon just for the trash from Seattle! Here, it is actually possible (and sometimes done) for people to dig a pit in their yard to dump trash so our solid waste division was created to help keep people from doing just that. Our take-it-or-leave-it is famous and actually a tourist attraction. Our state governor visited it when on the island. [lopezsolidwaste.org]

I went vegan for my health, although I appreciate and support all the reasons. Just to help make it easier for those on the fence to make the switch I would like to point out the both Guinness and Oreo cookies are vegan!
