I would say of the last 4 Presidents, GWB is the only one who likely believed the BS. in the Bible. Clinton, Obama, and Trump were/are most likely pretending to be religious to secure votes. @sassygirl3869 Has he set fire to the US Capital Building yet and thrown all the Democrats out of their Congressional Seats? Hitler did that 4 weeks after being elected. If he is on a Nazi, path it's a darn slow one. The day after the fire, at Hitler's request, President Hindenburg signed the Reichstag Fire Decree into law by using Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution. The Reichstag Fire Decree suspended most civil liberties in Germany, including habeas corpus, freedom of expression, freedom of the press, the right of free association and public assembly, the secrecy of the post and telephone.[11] These rights were not reinstated during Nazi reign. The decree was used by the Nazis to ban publications not considered "friendly" to the Nazi cause. Despite the fact that Marinus van der Lubbe claimed to have acted alone in the Reichstag fire, Hitler, after having obtained his emergency powers, announced that it was the start of a Communist plot to take over Germany. Nazi newspapers blared this "news".[11] This sent the Germans into a panic and isolated the Communists further among the civilians; additionally, thousands of Communists were imprisoned in the days following the fire (including leaders of the Communist Party of Germany) on the charge that the Party was preparing to stage a putsch. Speaking to Rudolph Diels about Communists during the Reichstag fire, Hitler said "These sub-humans do not understand how the people stand at our side. In their mouse-holes, out of which they now want to come, of course they hear nothing of the cheering of the masses."[12] With Communist electoral participation also suppressed (the Communists previously polled 17% of the vote), the Nazis were able to increase their share of the vote in the 5 March 1933, Reichstag elections from 33% to 44%.[13] This gave the Nazis and their allies, the German National People's Party (who won 8% of the vote), a majority of 52% in the Reichstag. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstag_fire

Actually, I think Virginia probably has the best solution. If it's a county road or a state road, the county or the state should maintain the roadside. That way if the motorcycle driver gets hurt by grass clippings from the road, it's a dispute between the motorcycle driver and the county or state. Farmers can go about their business of farming and not worry about being sued or arrested because motorcycle drivers were being reckless on the road next to the ground where they farm. We can't seem to get much right here in Illinois.

If it were a Socialist country, the government of Denmark would own all the corporations, and it would be impossible for me to invest in Denmark. The Scandinavian countries are always held up as a gleaming example of Socialism, but they are not Socialist countries: Here is the Denmark ETF: EDEN Here is the Swedish ETF: EWD Here is the Norway ETF: NORW Here is the Finland ETF: EFNL If the Scandinavian countries were Socialist, it would be impossible for me to invest there. The other thing that is often ignored is that those are homogeneous societies, and the Scandinavians in Scandinavia don't do as well as the Scandinavians in the USA. When the Scandinavians in the USA do better than other demographic groups in the USA, the lefties attribute it to "racism" or "white privilege" When the Scandinavians in Scandinavia do better than people living in other parts of the world, the lefties attribute that to the "success of Socialism" when they aren't even Socialist countries. I certainly think we could learn something from those countries. It would be great if we could stop spending $600,000,000 per year on our military. Essentially you said your generation had it harder for education eligibility, but that's an overly biased opinion. >> I made no such statement. I stated that the course of education I chose to pursue was extremely difficult, and that AOC would have almost zero chance to be admitted, and even less chance of making it through that course of study. The average SAT score for students admitted into the program today is about 1500. Can you back that up with data? This generation already has it harder with costs, which you didn't have to deal with (you had to cover a pittance). >> You are correct, and what's worse is that for the high tuition that students are paying, many are just receiving leftist brainwashing, and they are learning very few marketable skills. Also, the bubba network helped more people in the 80s than they do now (outside of 1%ers). Competition is much more fierce these days than then, especially with foreign students taking up slots. >> You are correct with respect to undergraduate programs, but even in the late 1980, the foreign competition was intense for graduate admission and graduate studies. There is something called the PhD qualifying exam you have to pass in order to enter the PhD program. I was one of 36 students that took the exam. The results were: First: The #1 student from the top technical university in Turkey Second: Me Third: The #1 student from National Taiwan University, who later went on to be the architect of Microsoft's Bing search engine. So I'm very familiar with foreign competition. Acceptance rates were higher during your time, but you're special somehow. He'll, I had it harder than you in the 90s. Of course, as a self righteous Boomer, you'll never believe that. [businessinsider.com] > I'm no boomer, I'm part of GenX. The baby boom ended in 64, I was born in 66. GenX and millennials are more productive than your generation because of technology and the ubiquitous adoption and use of it, but you'll rant you are different or better somehow and apply Olympic level mental gymnastics to arrive at that spectacularly misguided conclusion. @dokala I have B.S, M.S, and PhD. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, which at the time was the #4 ranked program in the world. There is no way a half-wit like AOC would even have been admitted into the undergraduate program I entered in 1984. Half of those admitted can't make it to the upper level electrical engineering programs, and those that fail out usually transfer into something like Economics and find they can breeze through the Economics program with very little effort. I have taught classes in microelectronic circuits to engineering students at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and I was admitted to Harvard Business School in 1996. So I believe my academic background stacks up quite well with that of the cute little half-wit AOC. The major problem going on at universities in the USA is millions of little half-wits like AOC get admitted, and they are brainwashed by leftist professors. The graduate deeply in debt full of all kinds of radical ideas that don't work in the real world. Our federal government is literally spending trillions of dollars producing millions of people like AOC with no marketable skills, crushing debt, and a belief that some form of socialism or collectivism will solve all of our problems.

BD66 replies on Jun 26, 2019:
@NoPlanetB, @Paul4747 You have to set policy based on how humans behave, not how humans in your view should behave. In reality, it's a WalMart world out there. The WalMart stores are huge. People go there to get the cheapest groceries, toys, supplies, and household appliances. The parking lots are full. The organic grocery stores full of free-range chickens and their eggs, grass-fed beef, etc. go out of business because the majority of people won't pay 3X or 4X more than they pay for the food they get at WalMart. The same thing holds for solar panels. People have finite resources, and they want to do the best they can providing for themselves and their families with the resources they have, so there will always be a "race to the bottom". From a net utility to humans perspective, that's a very good thing, because the majority of Americans have access to milk for $1.28 per gallon, eggs for $1 per dozen. HDTVs for $200, and laptop computers for ~$250.

@Spinliesel After WWII, the United States had the majority of the world's industrial production capability, and the majority of the world's investment capital. During that time, if you wanted something manufactured, it pretty much had to be manufactured in the USA. We made up only about 5% of the world's population. What the Marshall plan did was to take money away from US individuals and US companies, and gave it to foreign countries so they could compete with us economically. We were penalizing production in the USA and subsidizing production in foreign countries. As a result, foreign companies started to compete with us on a more equal footing. By the early 1970's you could see VW beetles and toyota civics all over the road. You could also see Sony personal electronics. This impact was felt very quickly by the US working man. They could no longer go on strike and get any concessions from management. The Caterpillar strike of 1978 pretty much wiped out all power of organized labor in Central IL in the year 1978. The final nail in the coffin was "Winning" the Cold War. When investment capital could reach the countries behind the Iron Curtain and the Bamboo Curtain, that increased the global pool of free-market labor by a factor of 5. That was the end of organized labor in the USA, and unskilled workers here have been suffering ever since. So if you want to place blame what turned the USA from "Working Man's Paradise" to just another country for the working man, the two primary culprits are the Marshall Plan and the trillions we spent "winning" the Cold war. If we had spent those trillions on our own industry and in subsidizing the educations of our workers, we would have a much stronger economy, and we wouldn't be $22,000,000,000,000 in debt.

@confidentrealm You have a very short memory: Juanita Broaddrick Main article: Juanita Broaddrick § Allegations against Bill Clinton In a 1999 episode of Dateline NBC, former Bill Clinton volunteer Juanita Broaddrick alleged that, in the late 1970s, Clinton raped her in her hotel room. According to Broaddrick, she agreed to meet with Clinton for coffee in the lobby of her hotel, but Clinton asked if they could go to her room to avoid a crowd of reporters; she agreed. Once Clinton had isolated her in her hotel room, Broaddrick states that he raped her. Broaddrick stated Clinton injured her lip by biting it during the assault.[10][11] In 1999, Clinton denied Broaddrick's allegations through his lawyer. Supporters of Clinton have questioned her account by noting that, when Broaddrick testified about her alleged encounter with Clinton under oath, she denied having been raped by him. In her NBC interview alleging rape, Broaddrick stated that she had only denied being raped under oath to protect her privacy. Supporters of Clinton have also noted that she continued to support him, and appear at public events on his behalf, weeks after the alleged rape, and that Broaddrick stated that she couldn't remember the day or month the alleged incident occurred.[12] Broaddrick has stated that in 1978 she revealed the alleged assault to five intimates, and that they advised her not to cause trouble for herself by going public. Leslie Millwee In October of 2016, Leslie Millwee accused Bill Clinton of sexually assaulting her three times in 1980. Millwee was then an employee at a now-defunct Arkansas based television station, and Clinton was then governor of Arkansas. Millwee told Breitbart News that on each of the three occasions, Clinton came up behind her and fondled her breasts, and on the second occasion, he rubbed his crotch against her and came to orgasm.[13] Paula Jones Main article: Paula Jones § Jones v. Clinton According to Paula Jones' account, on May 8, 1991, she was escorted to Clinton's hotel room in Little Rock, Arkansas,[14] where he propositioned and exposed himself to her. She claimed she kept quiet about the incident until 1994, when a David Brock story in the American Spectator magazine printed an account. In 1994, Jones filed a federal lawsuit against Clinton, alleging sexual harassment. In the discovery stage of the suit, Jones' lawyers had the opportunity to question Clinton under oath about his sexual history; in the course of this testimony, Clinton denied having had a sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky, a denial that, after his affair with Lewinsky was subsequently exposed, eventually led to his impeachment for perjury and obstruction of justice.[15] Several witnesses disputed Jones' account, including her sister and brother-in-law. ...

@Robecology Go back and think about all the religious cults that say "Jesus will return", they all line up waiting for Jesus to return at a given date and at a given time, and Jesus doesn't return, then their leaders just set a new date and time for Jesus to come back. That's exactly what is going on with "clean energy jobs". Windmills have been around for 2000+ years. Einstein got a Nobel prize for explaining the photovoltaic effect more than 100 years ago. Windmills and solar cells are not "New and exciting", they are old and noncompetitive. Clean energy companies received $44 billion in subsidies in 2009, that ramped down to $24 billion in 2011. Then as Republicans took back the house and a small bit of sanity returned to the US budgeting process, those numbers have decreased, and most of the clean energy companies that had somewhat viable business plans when they were getting massive subsidies, have either folded or gone into hibernation waiting until Democrats take back both the Executive and Legislative branches, and all the mad money starts flowing again. I had heard the total amount of green energy subsidies was $90 billion from 2009 through 2012. That was supposed to create a "Green Energy Revolution" with lots of new "Green Energy Jobs". Where is the revolution? Where are the jobs? It's just like the religious cults. There was supposed to be a "Green Energy Revolution" in 2009, $90,000,000,000 was thrown into subsidizing it. No revolution. But here you are 10 years later believing that if we just throw another $90,000,000,000 at the problem all of a sudden windmills (2000 year old technology) and solar cells (100+ year old technology) will somehow become competitive with nuclear and fossil fuels.

@dokala Let's start with the three countries that started WWII: Germany: A nation in the midst of Hitler hero-worship USSR: A nation scared to death of Joseph Stalin Japan: A nation in the midst of worshiping the Japanese Emperor as both the head of state and a living god. Next Let's look at Civilian deaths: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties Estimates of total deaths are are 70 to 85 million. (this is likely low) Look at China, Japan, Dutch East Indies, Korea, Malaya, Singapore, New Guinea, Phillippines, Portuguese Timor, South Pacific Mandate, Thailand, and a good portion of the United States: The Japanese Emperor and the people who used the worship of the Japanese Emperor to seize and maintain power are responsible for about about 30 million of those deaths. That government, that head of state, and that religion are the single biggest killer in the history of the world. They likely caused the death of more people than Stalin, Hitler, or Mao. If you look at worst, most destructive religion/political state on the face of the earth today, it is ISIS. I looked for estimates of the number of people killed by ISIS, and it appears to be about 20,000 people. So Japan and the Shinto religion killed approximately 1500 times more people in the 1930's and 1940's than ISIS has in the past 10 years. It was likely the single most murderous country/religion ever on the face of the earth. And the head of both the country and the religion was the Japanese emperor. The emperor embodied not only the head of state. He was also the head of their religion, and their national symbol. The best analogy I could make would be if the son of Hitler were still around, standing in front of a nazi swastika flag, holding the nazi staff with an iron eagle, then the US president would give that person a deep bow as a sign of respect. Would you approve of that?

Common sense is needed to keep a cool head these days.I am mostly confused by the lack of respect that people seem to have for experts in their fields.. My response: If you are focused on nutrition, that's a perfect example of the incompetence of government sponsored research. If you look at the US population in the 1950's, we were a thin healthy group of people, then the US Government (through nutritionists at the USDA) started promoting the "food pyramid" with grains at the bottom. They then implemented agricultural policies that encouraged farmers to grow huge amounts of low-nutrition corn, and corn sweetener started getting added to everything. Today, (60 years later) we have an epidemic of diabetes and obesity. This can be directly linked to the incompetence of the government scientists of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. You said: .I know some are off base, but when the numbers are overwhelming and cover all fields from marine biology to volcanic studies and come from all over the world, how do you reconcile that? Are all of them wrong at the same time? And what would be their motivation...all of them can't be conspirators to send out incorrect findings... My response: There is a big difference between "climate scientists" and other scientists such as astronomers, physicists, and even people like me who completed doctorates in science related fields like engineering. All those other sciences and technologies have been around for hundreds of years. To get a doctorate in those fields, you had to do well as an undergraduate, get accepted into a graduate program, do well academically in the graduate program, pass a qualifying exam, pass a preliminary exam, complete your thesis research, write a thesis, and do you final thesis defense. There were professors every step of the way who had been through the process themselves. They monitoring your progress, offering suggestions, and screened out many unqualified candidates. Climate science literally sprung up out of nowhere, and the US Government and other foreign governments started throwing large amounts of money at it. There were no established experts in the field, just lots of people chasing government grant money. Anyone who said "Yes, the earth is warming gradually. Yes humans are contributing to it, but it's a minor problem that requires no intervention" would get no grant money. Anyone who would come up with a doomsday scenario would get the attention of the government bureaucrats handing out the money, so ...

Over the past 600 million years, the Earth's carbon dioxide levels have ranged from 200ppm to 7000ppm, and life flourished at all those different levels. It's completely irrational to believe that there is some narrow range of CO2 levels (say 280 to 380ppm) where humans can survive, and if we go outside of that range everybody will perish. @Rob1948 The ACA was passed without a single Republican vote. It's a complete disaster, and the Democrats are 100% responsible.

On impeachment, Warren just stole the show from her dodging Democratic rivals
BD66 comments on Apr 20, 2019:
They need to make an example out of Warren and prosecute her for the fraud she perpetrated to get her career started. That's much worse than what the wealthy parents did to get their children into moderately elite universities.

@Cutiebeauty Look around you. The stock market is at near all-time highs. Unemployment is at a 50 year low. Trump's tough stance on trade with other countries is paying off. @demifeministgal I have a better example of being screwed by environmentalists. Rubber has been the preferred insulation for electric wires for over 100 years. Sometime in 2011 or 2012, some idiot greenhead at Honda got the idea that it would be a good idea to get rid of the rubber insulation on the wires in Honda cars and replace that with soy-based insulators. I had no idea of this incredibly stupid decision, but I did buy a 2014 Honda CR-V late in 2013. Well guess what? Rodents love the soy-based insulation! So far rodents have chewed through the soy-based insulation in my car's wiring twice, and it has cost me more than $2000 to get the car repaired!

@demifeministgal Damage done by leftists: Obamacare: I was paying $500/month before Obamacare. 4 years into Obamacare my premiums were going to be $1866/month, but I created a partnership so I could get group insurance and get out of the Obamacare nightmare: Damage done be feminists: Family Law courts. My son and I are living through a nightmare where feminists dominate family law courtrooms. My wife has been the suspect in 8 different police reports. She has been arrested twice and convicted once. We had three different policemen testify at hearings about her violent attacks on me. My son has testified to the local police multiple times that my crazy wife has choked him, threatened to cut his throat, hit him multiple times, knocked his glasses off, tortured him in a variety of ways. He has been denied the opportunity to testify against her in court, and the feminists in the family law court system gave her custody of my son. My own family's family law nightmare has played out millions of times in courtrooms across the USA. Damage done by environmentalists: Energy-efficient dishwashers that do not clean dishes. Energy-efficient light bulbs that create irritating florescent light. And they are just getting started with the Green New Deal. Let's hope they never become the majority.

@Dyl1983 Look at the definition in the Merriam Webster Dictionary: Definition of windmill (Entry 1 of 2) 1a : a mill or machine operated by the wind usually acting on oblique vanes or sails that radiate from a horizontal shaft especially : a wind-driven water pump or electric generator So a windmill may generate electricity, it may pump water, or it may grind grain. This is equivalent to my saying "That is a dog" Some windmills generate electricity. Those windmills can be called wind turbines or wind energy converters. Some dogs are huskies, beagles, and German shepherds. This is equivalent to you saying "That is not a dog, it is a German shepherd"

@Dyl1983 Wind mills turn wind energy into rotational energy. Wind turbines are a subset of wind mills that turn that rotational energy into electrical energy. It's similar to my saying "Watch out that dog will bite you" and you would respond with "That's not a dog, that's a German Shepherd!"

@Dyl1983 You fools want to rely on technology that is 2000 years old to generate electricity, and you are laughing at me? A wind turbine is a specific type of windmill used to generate electricity. Here's a reference from wikipedia: By the 1930s, windmills were widely used to generate electricity on farms in the United States where distribution systems had not yet been installed, built by companies such as Jacobs Wind, Wincharger, Miller Airlite, Universal Aeroelectric, Paris-Dunn, Airline, and Winpower. The Dunlite Corporation produced turbines for similar locations in Australia.[citation needed] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windmill

Back to my earlier questions: 1. Why such hatred for the USA? 2. Have you always hated the USA? 3. How did you develop the hatred? 4. Why the hatred of capitalism? 5. Have you spent much time in non-capitalist countries to see how other types of economies work? 6. Have you considered living in a non-capitalist country? If so, which one?
