@SpikeTalon my grandparents also came through Ellis Island and they were also very poor. My grandfather was a janitor at school, and my grandmother was a nanny for some rich little brat. Somehow or another they managed to live in a very nice two story home in a nice neighborhood. That is not even a remote possibility for people these days. The cost of living has increased, pay has not increased and the minimum wage remains pretty damn close to what it was decades and decades ago. I volunteered for Planned Parenthood for a few years. I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that people know that sexual intercourse leads to pregnancy. So why don't they act like it? Parents know that they need to spend time with their kids, so why do so many of them not want to spend time with their kids? People know that eating high-fat fast foods will make them fat, so why is there so much obesity in this country? It's difficult to solve these problems because people are born to be stupid fuck ups. A Pollyanna way of looking at life it's not going to solve anything. everybody knows what they should do, but they just don't do it. I'd say the overwhelming majority of people who own guns are irresponsible gun owners. You obviously have way too much faith in the human animal.

@onlyduh same thing here in Raleigh, luck was on our side. It rained in some form or fashion for 4 days straight. We definitely avoided the worst. The rain here was the most dangerous aspect of this hurricane. They began measuring rainfall in feet not inches for some parts of North Carolina. We began letting some people into parts of North Carolina however many of the rivers are still expected to overflow.

I actually do consider myself a misanthrope. I have no hope for the human race , I refuse to breed because I hate kids . I only help/volunteer to help animals and have in the past supported Planned Parenthoods mission. The latest I read is that it's going to make landfall on Friday but it's such a huge hurricane we're going to feel the effects With high winds and massive amounts of rain. @Rhetoric I can't remember who said this, but it perfectly sums up how I feel. he said if you are a Christian, a Muslim or a Jew I am an atheist. If you are anything else, I'm an agnostic. I do not believe in a living God and do not believe the Bible should be taken literally . I do not believe in religion as it has been presented to me. However, I do not, nor will I ever, profess to know if God exists in some form or not. I simply do not know, and I'm not sure if anybody could ever know. it's very similar to making a statement that there is absolutely no way that there could be life on other planets. how could anybody make that assertion when were like kindergarteners in our knowledge of exactly what is out there.

True, @cava why does God have to be a person? When you mention the term God or afterlife different ideas pop up in different people's heads. The mere concept of God / afterlife in and of itself is extremely restricting. after all, not one human has died for 6 months to a year and come back to tell everybody the truth. Even Richard Dawkins and Neil deGrasse Tyson claim to be agnostic. these two men are extremely well educated and intelligent, but they know that they don't have all the answers and they don't have all the proof that they need to consider themselves to be 100% atheist.
