Sadly, as strong as I wish I was - as I hope to be - it still only talked a few people to trigger insecurities that I've had for decades. So - I now tell them this - and this is where I hold my ground.

"i used to think I was unattractive; felt that way since the third grade - but can't remember why. Now, after all this time, I looked at myself, and think, 'I am a 45 year old man; i look younger than my father did at this age'.
No, I am not 20 anymore - haven't been for many years. If that is what you want, move along.
Not 30 either; move along if that is where you are anchored.
I'm 45. I've raised two kids on my own. I have loads of flaws, but I am still one of the kindest people you will ever meet, as long as you give me the same.
I have lived through loss that I hope you will never know. I have done things I am ashamed of. I still try hard to live every day as best as I can.
If you want me in your life, the door is opened.
Otherwise, please look elsewhere. I have enough on my plate without trying to fix your worldview.

Love to you all -
D"

Right on Derek. There comes a time when you just have to maintain your self-respect and let the users know that you have drawn the line. Good luck. ... Try to go back to third grade and tell yourself that you did the best you could under the circumstances. Then tell that bastard who planted your inferiority complex to get lost and vacate your head forever.

The question I have is what is your perspective of attractive? If you are thinking that based on physical appearance then I need to tell you something. A woman worth loving even as a friend will be attracted to conversations, and character. No-one judging you based on how you look is even worthy of a second thought.
The thought I had about your post resemble the comments already shared. You are on the right track. You shared your pain and you WILL receive support here.
Also, you do not need to be strong so much as you need to be brave and you evidently are!

Interesting self-assessment... I am curious as to the scales you apply.
