Picture on profile is not a face sometimes a cat, landscape, cartoon, etc. Why? Most of the time I just pass over as it seems somehow negative or shows low self esteem. What do you think? What category should this question be under?

I use my image, because I am not interested in dating or meeting up irl with anyone. Furthermore, I often get political or engage in controversial topics. I like to separate such discussions from google image searches of myself. You never know what employer, landlord, etc. is going to be looking up info on you and might judge you for your beliefs and opinions.

If someone doesn't post a current picture of themselves, I initially wonder what they have to hide. And I wish gentlemen would not post bare chested photos. TMI!!!

@evergreen I definitely agree with your last statement. Even with the most sexy of torsos, to me, it is not sexy to show off.

@BlueWave The message and vibe it creates makes me uncomfortable without even meeting the man. Even if the man is a body builder, he ought to know that it's tacky to put yourself on display so much. I'm not so shallow that the look of your torso will be a deal maker or breaker, dude.

Potential reasons , for not posting your photo : 1 . You're married , and don't want your spouse to happen upon your photo . 2 . You're an escaped criminal and don't want the law to locate you. 3 . You don't consider yourself attractive , and hope your words will capture someone's heart , before they discover you aren't physically attractive . 4 . You're cat-fishing someone you know , with mean ulterior motives . 5 . You're deeply in debt , and hope to talk someone into sending you money for an emergency , then immediately cut all communication . 6 . You're a Nigerian Prince , so can't show your face in public . 7 . You're extremely attractive looking , or rich or famous , but you want someone who's interested in who you are , instead of how you look , how much money you have , or how famous you are .

  1. You are closeted atheist and live and/or work within a very conservatively religious community or household and you don’t want to deal with the drama.

  2. You are here simply to have conversations and not meet anybody for romance so you don’t care about showing your pictures.

  3. You have a crazy ex who are you don’t want finding you.

  4. You are simply a private person when it comes to your image and you also don’t have photos of yourself anywhere else on the Internet.

I do not have a photo because it attracts unsavory characters. I am not a 10 but sometimes the reactions are as if I was.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and our worst critic is often ourselves. Sometimes the things you find unattractive about yourself is what attracts others to you. Something to consider.

People have varied reasons for not wanting to post a true depiction of themselves. From numerous posts on the subject, I’d say most touch on privacy. I’m okay with it.

Alternatively, it could mean that someone has enough self-esteem to not care what anyone else thinks and have anything they wish as a profile photo.
