The most troubling thought I have about the celebrity suicides this week of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain is how it effects their children. Both of them leave young daughters.

I see years of counseling for them, the loss of a father affects both Girls and Boys,Men are told to no show emoting, but young Women are allowed to shed tears.

I find this obsession with celebrity suicides, whilst ignoring the suicides of normal, every day people, who've had much worse lives and still leave children behind, quite nauseating.

Suicide affects everyone around them. It's very painful for all loved ones.

My mother suffered from involutional melancholia and took lithium most of her adult life. She was hospitalized a few times after trying to end her life. I was not home when these occured as I entered a semi cloistered convent right after high school. I remember one of the Superiors, Sr. Rose, pulling me aside to tell me that my Mother had been hospitalized with a mental breakdown. She also told me that if I inherited this trait, I would not be able to remain in the community. I felt as though someone punched me in the face.

? nothing like kicking you when you are down.

Lets not forget that people who commit suicide are victims. They’re not doing it because they’re selfish. They do it because they’re sick.

In troubled times.. I remembered a documentary on Harry Truman, describing his wife, Bess, pacing in the backyard of her family home ..with her fists clenched, muttering angrily… Her father had killed himself, and I don’t think she ever recovered..

I had/ have two daughters .. that thought alone kept me clawing on. Such affects far more than the deceased, perhaps that’s the real tragedy..

I'm glad you kept "clawing on". They really do need YOU. My daughter is 6. She is my world. I gave life to her and she gives life to me every day.

@BlueEyesDallasTX Thank you, mine were about teenagers, and struggling too. Today, after many successes, it hardly seems imaginable..

So very sad that someone would find life so unbearable that they must end it of their own volition. What intolerable pain and anguish could have been going on his their lives that death was the only answer.

Sad. But a lot depends on their available family emotional support.

We never really understand how life affects others. Such losses!
