Today I decided to explore Ft McHenry in Baltimore, MD. You know....war of 1812, site where Francis Scott Key (white supremacist and slave owner) wrote the Star Spangled Banner. First I hoped that perhaps Justin Treadeau might be there since our Nazi in Chief, Donald Trump, accused the Canadians of burning down the White House during this war. But darn, since it was really the English that did the dirty work, Justin wasn't there and I didn't get to ask him for political asylum, preferably in Montreal. But I did think that since this is the location where our national anthem was written that I would see vast evidence of respect when it was being played in the visitor's center. But, no.... everyone was herding their kids, scratching their bums, talking to each other and basically being unaware. Even the people who worked there were ringing up sales on the cash registers, selling tickets for the fort and basically being in a state of altered attention. Well all I can say is that it's a good thing they aren't football players or all hell would have broken loose.

Did you take a knee? ??

I had considered it but was paying for my fort admission ticket.

The commercialisation of history.

Yep. I was glad I visited there. I keep hoping that if we understand our past we will be better in the future, but I'm no longer sure of that

Go to Vancouver. Better city and warmer than Montreal.

Never been to Vancouver. I've only visited Toronto and Montreal.

Vancouver is a beautiful city.

Respect in the land of the free is kind of an alien approach to life. Never taught as children becomes hard to comprehend by adults.

Sadly so true

This is absolutely true; for years I thought that Scott Key was in a boat with a Spanish kid because I heard the lyrics as "Jose, do you see, by the dawn's early light....".

Good one!

Thats like the hymn "Gladly the cross-eyed bear"

@273kelvin ??

Key wrote only the lyrics, you know, "¿José can you see?", in anticipation of the influx of illegal immigrants. The tune was a English drinking song by the same drunken Brits who actually burnt down the White House. We Canadians just stood around saying "Zed! Eh? Sorry! Tabernac'! while looking for a church key. We did burn down the Wall, however, which, in retrospect, turned out to be a mistake. This episode is not well known. If it's asylum you want, I can arrange it. Nothing that money cannot fix.

True and many americans don't want to be reminded were the tune came from. It was not a church tune for sure. I write a lot of poems until a tune I can use comes along. And watch it, by next year Mejicanos burned down the white house, in collusion with the North Koreans on 1812 according latest data provided by russia.

@Arouet thanks...do I need to bring lawyers, guns, and money? Oh never mind the guns, you Canadians are sensible and have laws. I can be packed in a flash!

Here is the statue that was erected in honor of the anthem. It's Orpheus, a naked Roman-Greco guy..go figure

I hope Justin calls him out on this. He did it before when trump blamed Muslims for a shooting in Canada. Maybe if he's told he is an idiot by enough head leaders, he'll realize it. I first heard about it last night. I immediately sent a message to a friend that lives in Canada saying "thanks for burning down the White house". He lol'd.

Have you ever Really, Really seen an Idiot stop being an Idiot? Mad cow roseanne barr as example.

@GipsyOfNewSpain I'm a reformed idiot. 🙂 However, I read books!

@TheGreatShadow Then we will keep an eye on you.
