OK, that's unexpected. I started using a new weight-control app on my phone called Lose It! This app includes an AI pattern recognizer which detects patterns in your weight fluctuations based upon what you record, and then makes recommendations to help you meet your goals (a major selling point for me, as a huge geek). Guess what its first recommendation was? Wait for it...
EAT MORE CANDY!
It noticed that on days when I eat my occasional Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles, I take in fewer overall calories. I have no idea why this happens. Maybe it is subconscious guilt? Anyway, so long as this weight-control app continues to recommend things like "eat more candy", I think we're going to get along!
Weight 'control' as opposed to weight loss.
It sounds as though it isn't very intelligent.
I don't know. Sometimes "common sense" is not very intelligent, and unexpected patterns turn out to be the winning strategy. Check out the story of AlphaGo, which bucked 5,000 years of human tradition and won with an unexpected strategy.
