The lack of empathy and cruel comments on my last post tell me a lot about some of the people on this website. Most of you are okay, but others who feel like mental illness is a selfish illness need to educate themselves. I was not defending suicide in any way but from someone who has been suicidal multiple times in the past, I have empathy and sympathy for those who are suffering. I don’t have to know them to show them the love and respect they deserve. Everyone deserves to know someone cares that they are alive.

I also was disturbed by the comments people made. We just got to look past the negative posts and focus on the ones who deserve out attention.

“Where I grew up in Brooklyn, nobody committed suicide. Everyone was too unhappy.”

The moment someone starts to troll you, just go to their profile, and push the "block" button, seen in the right side box.

I also do this to any men who make misogynistic comments, or who are rude to me or any other women. Also men who make sexual comments, post sexual photos, or state on their profile that they're open to dating but are married, want hook ups, etc.

Is it your immediate last post? If not please point it out.

Hmm... I haven't read your prior post but what you said in this one caught my eye... I can relate to you closely with what you say, especially with having felt suicidal at times myself... my life has been full of cruel circumstances/fate and mishaps, it really gets to me.
I don't know what I could say about the negative comments/feedback, but hopefully there were/are some good, insightful ones in there as well that may have helped a bit... and if anyone is really obnoxious or rude, call 'em out. Let them know why you feel the way you do, and either they'll reveal themselves as an obvious idiot/troll, clarify what they maybe meant, and at the very least, be civil & apologize. I've been surprised at times when I've had to do it, I've also learned it's really easy to misunderstand responses because it's so hard to see the context of character from others on walls of text.. like me for example, as I write too much, haha.

I've seen some of those comments. Some people just don't get it. Or maybe they think cracking a joke will "lighten up" the mood (someone once told me that!). I don't think people understand that mental illness is a serious ongoing problem, and not just relevant this week because of two celebrities in the news.

How could it be selfish the person that is mentally ill has no idea they have a problem (my kid's mom has schizophrenia) in the mind of the mentally ill person, the rest of the world is doing thing the wrong way. It is the chemical reacting in their heads that all them to perceive the world as anti them. How in any one's mind that could make the mentally ill selfish?

People are so quick to be critical. You have no idea what that person is going through. Everyone is suffering to a small or to greater extent. Just don’t judge, it says more about you then the person suffering

I hope I didn't say anything stupid? I personally do defend the right to die. I hope someone will help me if something happens to me. Or help my wife if I'm gone. We've already talked about this and are comfortable with it.

Mental illness is a big problem. It can be minor or major problem in some people. Some of it is developemental delay or slowly comes on from enviromental or chemical imbalance.

I concur with what JimG said. Don't worry, you're amongst friends. We got your back.

There were also posts made by caring and understanding people as well. I did not post because Marz summed up my views pretty well. Don't worry about what other people think. Just be yourself and know you're better than that.
