"There are more than 500 members of Congress, and not a single one has publicly expressed that he or she doesn’t believe in God. Only one member — Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) — lists herself as religiously unaffiliated. More than 90 percent of Congress identifies as Christian."

Sinema used to identify as atheist, but softened it to non to appear less of a godless heathen to the red voters. Probably part of her long game, since she likely expected to run for McCain's seat. Instead, Flake is retiring and she's facing whoever wins the Republican primary - Martha McSally, Kelly something or other, or Joe Arpaio.

Fake it while you make....I believe most people in politics or those that belong to the elite class role playing...actors on the global stage. They don't believe half the crap the spoonfed the common people...

Most pols close their speeches with "God Bless America." I never heard Bernie Sanders mention God in his speeches. I believe he is one of us.

Lots of Christians vote. Congressmen and women, rather tell a little lie than alienate a potential vote.

I'v voted Republican forever. The last Democrat I voted for (gabby) got herself shot. Learning that Sinema is a "non-believer, will likely earn my vote. I hope she is well protected in public.

People don’t “get themselves shot”

@Science-guy
Insert Trump joke here.

I guarantee some of those people are nonbelievers. Admitting it would be political suicide, especially at this time.

That's really got to stop.
I wish more atheists were running for offices at the local level.
We've got to start somewhere.

I completely agree but will be a very slow process.
