Old residue from when I was younger.

All my life, people have criticized me for being too skinny. Seventh grade was torture. I was puberty-delayed. When I entered science class, boys sang loudly:

"She's a carpenter's dream...flat as a board!"

"She's a pirate's dream... a sunken chest!"

They collapsed on the floor, laughing loudly. That's when I developed dignity and good posture. Back straight, shoulders back and head high, I icily ignored them. Visualized a trap door swallowing them.

Through high school, I dated one boy who was a year older. Our 10-year high school reunion in Michigan was great. Those same guys hung all over me, moaning, "You were the prettiest girl in high school! Why didn't you ever date any of us?" I had an older, more mature boyfriend, I replied and smiled.

As an adult, heavy women say hurtful things: "Only dogs like bones... Men want soft women with more to grab onto... You have a stick figure." Ouch.

I still feel insecure about my little body.

@LiterateHiker
You're so brave to share your story, that takes a lot of courage.
That's very admirable.

You ever see those Greek Gods with those little peckers? I can't win...lol.

???

@OroLee Now that's funny... justification of a little pecker. I wonder about the ladies and other guys wanting the sweat off of these muscular men.

@OroLee, @Wildgreens lol...I got you to laugh!?

@OroLee well ok... everyone has a preference. I can tell you that I'm picky too. I like short lady's with a little extra. Dont really care about breast size. Shes got to be a little on the wild side.

@BucketlistBob
There's a lot more to a good man besides size.

@Theskeptic hmmm... lol...style.... oh yes hes so stylish.

@OroLee. What!.... ive been robbed...lol.

You two are hilarious. ???????

I do. I grew up being told I’m too fat, I’m ugly. There’s always something wrong to be pointed out. I’ve learned to hate parts of myself. I’m doing much better now although now and again I would have a breakdown and I can’t even get out and be in public. I will be visiting my parents for the next few days. I worry my mother would pick something on my person to say something negative about. For me it’s not just “shame”; I’m actually terrified people would notice my imperfect parts and laugh at me.

Awwww.... what you talking about.... you ladies are something else...

You're beautiful Graceylou. ?
Love yourself ❤️ no matter what.

@Wildgreens I’m usually fine and accept myself the way I am. I have my moments but get along with life. Friends and lovers through the years have built up my confidence that I am not the monster troll I was led to believe I was.

Just use the behaviorist method to "train" your parents.

Only look at them and pay attention to them when they are being loving and positive, but the moment they veer off into criticism, let your attention drift and seem to be preoccupied with something else.

Mumble a patronizing "Um..hum," then excuse yourself and leave the room. Go completely away and do things with other people. If you are consistent, doing this EVERY time, and never letting them enjoy seeing a reaction, they will quickly change their behavior.

I trained my own parents to stop accusing my kids, in three visits.
