Yes, religion & politics preach peace, love, justice & equality. But they also preach war, hate, violence and tribalism. We have been getting mixed messages all along.

It would be nice to think so.
However,
it wouldn't have taken off,
not popular,
If mankind was really motivated to such,
then religion and politics would reflect it.
The reality seems to be that religion and politics were organised so as to
enslave, conquer etc.
